Kate Hudson On the Cover of In Style

Celebrity Mom Kate Hudson is featured on the cover of the March issue of British In Style Magazine. In the interview, she talks about motherhood, style, and finding her own way.

Here are some highlights:

On her personal style:
“Sometimes I feel a bit schizophrenic, like I have no idea! When I’m going somewhere and I’m tired and not thinking about it at all, what I end up wearing is what I would say my style is. I like things that are comfortable and flowy – and lots of jewellery”

On women being mean to each other:
“Most of us have been in a situation where women are very threatened by other women. I’ve been in situations where just being happy was a threat to others. But I’m not like that. I was raised to root for other people. And I think we need that”

On her new film Bride Wars:
“My favourite part about the film was the importance of friendship – that’s really what the movie is about. It was hard to get that into the script because you’re telling a story about two women who are sabotaging each other’s wedding. With all of the pettiness that’s involved, it was so fun to see this movie because it’s a nice reminder that no matter how far you take it with your friends, whether you’re fighting with them or you hate them for two months, you just really need them, because they’re the ones who teach you the most about yourself.”

On being a single mom: “Being a single parent can be difficult, but I don’t feel I am one. Chris and I are co-parenting and travelling is where it gets difficult. Chris is on the road and I’ve had a busy last year, so I am going to take a break in 2009. I want to soak in every little part of who Ryder is.”

On being single:
“I’m enjoying being single because I really never have been…“I feel good in relationships. I enjoy them, so I feel my best when I’m in something solid. But it’s the first time I’ve taken a step back and gotten a new perspective. I’ve made a conscious decision to try to stay single as long as possible.”

Apparently, my mom craved ginger ale when she was pregnant with me! Maybe it's a hereditary thing. But, yeah, I didn't eat any meat or cheese before - now I have to."

She also revealed that her pregnancy won't be written into the show.

"It had been discussed whether or not they would write it in, and they had the opportunity to, but just working with babies for one week confirmed it's a good thing they're not writing it in," she said. "Babies are hard to work with!"

Hannigan is expecting her first child this spring with husband, actor Alexis Denisof.

Julianne Moore Talks Motherhood

Julianne Moore is featured on the cover of the March issue of Redbook Magazine. In the interview, this busy working mom opens up about her family - her husband, writer-director Bart Freundlich, and their two children, son Caleb, about to turn 11, and daughter Liv, 6.

On enjoying the simple things:
"My son had to go to the orthodontist to have his braces off yesterday. We celebrated by chewing gum."

On taking a birthday trip to Paris with son Cal:
"Two months ago, apropos of nothing, my son said, 'Mommy, for our birthdays, instead of a party, let's go to Paris, just the two of us.' This is probably the last time in his life Cal will want to go somewhere alone with his mother. I was flattered and thrilled."

On her involvement with the charity, Save the Children:
"A friend of mine is their artist-ambassador person. She gets people involved. I didn't realize Save the Children had a U.S. program; it reaches communities through the public school system with after-school programs in nutrition, exercise, literacy. We moved a lot when I was little because my dad was in the military, and I went to one public school after another. I lived in Lincoln, Nebraska; Fayetteville, South Carolina; Juneau, Alaska; Falls Church, Virginia. In Juneau — I've told this story many times; it was a formative experience for me — there was a girl in my class. She looked different, very small for her age, very thin, eyes very wide; there was something wrong but no one knew what. I now realize she had fetal alcohol syndrome. It makes me want to cry. I look at our public school system and think there's so much we can do to pick up the slack. So now I'm Save the Children's U.S. ambassador."

On being a working mom:
"I try to work in the summer, or shoot in New York City. I'll try to come back every weekend, or schedule around school breaks. No one likes it, but you're trying to make a living. People say, 'Then don't do it,' but I do have a career. Every woman I know strives for flexibility, and I fortunately have a tremendous amount of it."

On who is the the disciplinarian in their household:
"We both are. But I think moms and dads get angrier at different things. When I talk to other mothers, they say that sometimes dads get mad at things that kids can't help. If a kid is having a tantrum, dads will be, 'Stop that right now.' Moms will be like, 'He's out of control. You can't discipline; you have to find a way to contain it.' Whereas moms get angry if someone breaks a rule. The rule is: Don't wipe dirty hands on the wall, and dads will say, 'What's the big deal?'"

On motherhood changing her:
"You do learn a tremendous amount of patience. Children's pace is glacial, and you can't change that. Literally, just walking down the street with them, I thought I was going to tear my hair out, but that's where they are. It's not difficult to take care of a child; it's difficult to do anything else while taking care of a child. Trying to clean up the kitchen after you've had a baby is a nightmare. You have to wait for the baby to be asleep, you're exhausted, you don't want to clean up the kitchen now. My kids still don't like me to read the newspaper in the morning. I'll be making their breakfast, and I'll have The New York Times there and want to read it, and they'll be like, 'Mommy, Mommy, Mommy.'"

On her daughter, Liv:
"She's incredible, so smart. She's in first grade. I have these pictures of her at kindergarten, I'm sitting on a chair and she's sitting on my lap and I'm talking in her ear and she looks so worried. Kindergarten is the hardest for me — that's the year I cry. I walk out of that classroom and I burst into tears. They're entering the school world."

On what she loves about being an actress:
"The stories. My whole life, my whole personality, my whole raison d'être is about reading stories. It changes your life. It's why I'm obsessed with literacy and children. It's how you learn to want different things and realize that you're part of a collective consciousness and community. When you read, you don't feel like you're alone."

Look for her new book Freckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully due out in April!

Some highlights from the interview:

On her post-baby body:
"Lately I love my stomach. After growing a human being inside me, there is nothing more incredible or sexy!"

On her desire to lose the 42 lbs she gained during pregnancy:
"That's a lot of weight for mama! Sure, I wanted to lose my baby weight, but I didn't want to lose my butt! I think it's sexy when women have shapely bodies."

On her relationship with ex-fiancé Eric Cubiche (the two separated in November 2008):
"We're going through a rough patch. There are no bad feelings there. We didn't plan a wedding, we planned a child. [Dezi James] is the greatest thing that's happened to either one of us."

Alsion Sweeney Writes About Daughter Megan's Arrival

Days of our Lives star and The Biggest Loser host Alison Sweeney welcomed her second child, daughter Megan Hope earlier this month. In her new post on her official blog, she writes about Megan's late night arrival just before midnight on January 12.

She writes:

“There is SO much to say… I don’t know where to begin. First of all, yes, I had to go right to the hospital after shooting a weigh-in at Biggest Loser. So, I arrived not having eaten lunch, or anything. And Megan was born that night! At one point the Dr thought things were moving slowly, and it might not be until 4 or 5am. So I sent my restless husband off with his friend for a bite to eat (I certainly didn’t want them eating in front of me since I wasn’t allowed any food – which I didn’t know until it was too late. Take note! Eat beforehand!)

"And then seriously, he couldn’t have been gone 10 minutes, my girlfriend and I were chatting away, and everything happened all at once. (euphemism intended for all squirmy people.) Next thing I know, my friend is texting dave – hurry back!!! And the Dr is saying DON’T DO ANYTHING, do breathe too hard, till he gets back. And once he returned, scrubbed in, it wasn’t more than 15 minutes later she was born. She did not want to be born on the 13th! Lol. Which apparently was a bet between Dave and his buddy.

"Here’s a funny side story. One of the nurses looking after Megan and I was a long time Days fan. And she got such a kick out of telling me about how her colleagues were all doing double takes as they went to put out the latest issue of Pregnancy Magazine in their waiting area, only to see their patient on the cover! She brought me a copy – since I hadn’t seen it yet – and she was having such fun teasing them all for being star struck. What timing right? That the mag would be released while I was in the hospital? XOXO Ali”
