Cate Blanchett suffered a head injury during a live performance of A Streetcar Named Desire at The Sydney Theater Company on Wednesday evening.
The actress was hit in the head with a prop during the evening performance. Previous reports indicated that the accident occurred when a radio was through at her by another cast member.
"There was a minor incident on stage that unfortunately did injure Cate," says Tim McKeough, the theatre's spokesman. "There is no point in the show in which the radio is thrown at her. There was a moment when another actor lifted the prop above his head and she somehow sustained a minor blow to the head."
An audience member tells the Sydney Morning Herald that "[Blanchett] had blood streaming down the back of her head and blood on the back of her neck."
The witness adds, "She acted for about another 30 seconds, then ran into what we thought was the next scene, but before we knew it the lights were turned on and we were told there were technical difficulties and everyone had to evacuate the Sydney Theatre Company."
Blanchett is expected to return to the stage tonight.
