Amy Poehler Is a 'Real Beauty'

Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler will be awarded this year’s Dove Real Beauty Award at the 34th Annual AWRT (American Women in Radio and Television) Gracie Awards. AWRT and Dove have partnered since 2004 to create ‘the Dove Real Beauty Award to honor an individual who best embodies and expresses the ’substance and spirit’ of real beauty through her life and career.’

AWRT President Maria Brennan says of this year's selection, "We are excited… Amy Poehler is an ideal recipient for this recognition balancing her many roles as entertainer, entrepreneur, advocate and mother. She sends a strong, positive message to women and girls of any age. On and off screen, Poehler accomplishes this by consistently demonstrating her dedication to empowering women and girls everywhere. Through her digital series for the ON Networks, Smart Girls at the Party, Amy continues to acknowledge and support girls who are ‘changing the world by being themselves’."

Poehler says of the receiving the award, "I am honored and flattered to be included in any award that has the words ‘real’ and ‘beauty’ in it."

Best known for her years on Saturday Night Live, Poehler has appeared in numerous comedies including Mean Girls, Blades of Glory, and Baby Mama.

Previous receipients include Gayle King, Linda Ellerbee, Joy Behar, and Lisa Ling.

The award will be presented at the 34th Annual Gracie Awards Gala on Wednesday, June 3 at the Marriott Marquis in New York.
