Things did not go as smoothly as planned during Madonna's adoption hearing this morning.
The singer spent an hour in court this morning in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi , before a judge delayed ruling on her adoption application until Friday.
The delay comes as the grandmother of the girl, Mercy James, has voiced her opposition to the adoption. (Her mother died at age 18.)
"Why doesn't this singer pick other children?" the grandmother tells Britain's The Sun. "It is stealing. I want to go to to court. I won't let her go."
