Dennis and Kimberly Quaid Welcome Twins!

Dennis Quaid and Kimberly Quaid welcomed twins Thomas Boone Quaid and Zoe Grace Quaid, on Thursday in Santa Monica.

Thomas Boone was born at 8:26 a.m. and weighed in at 6 lb. 12 oz., while Zoe Grace came two minutes later and weighed 5 lb. 9 oz.

The Quaids released a statement about the arrivals saying, "God has definitely blessed us."

The twins were born via a gestational carrier. A gestational carrier is when a woman carries another couple's baby which was conceived by the parents' own egg and sperm.

The twins are the first children for the couple. Dennis has a 15-year-old son, Jack Henry, with ex-wife Meg Ryan.

Sounds like God had very little to do with this pregnancy. I dislike the fact that they opt for the term gestational carrier, in stead of a surrogate mother. The woman who carried these babies for 9 months is not some object.

His son is 15, not 17 years old.

  2. Technically their pregnancy was a gestational surrogacy in which their fertilized egg was implanted in a surrogate carrier.

The more traditional surrogacy is in which the surrogate's egg is fertilized with the father's sperm and then implated in the surrogate mother.

It's just a term to differentiate the two different types of surrogacy.
