Jenna Elfman Introduces Son Story Elias Elfman

Actress Jenna Elfman introduces her son Story Elias who arrived on July 23 in this weeks issue of OK! Magazine.

Of course one the first questions they asked was about the unique name. Elfman's husband Bodhi explained: "I just think story is a great word. What's better than a great story?"

Jenna confirms that she did adhere to the Scientology "silent birth" method in which the mother and everyone else in the delivery room abstains from making any noise. She explains, "Birth is a painful process for mother and baby. Any time you're hurt, you're not totally present in that moment. When I'm going through something painful, I don't want a lot of yapping and commotion around me.

"The overall thing is that during moments of pain and unconsciousness, the mind records everything, and anything that's said can have a negative effect on [the mom and child] later. In the C-section room, there were nine people, and I just asked them if they wouldn't mind being quiet. If they needed to do their jobs medically, just talk quietly. You don't want the doctors to be yapping about their golf vacation."

What bothers me so much about Scientologists' belief in silent birth is that a) it was made up by a man who had obviously never gone through the pain of childbirth and b) they make it seem like those of us born not during silent birth are somehow defective or messed up. She is completely entitled to her opinions and to give birth anyway she wants to, I would never disagree with that. Just try not to make it sound like you did it better.

Oh, come on! Giving "birth" by planned c-section with lots of anaesthesia and then do it the silent way is NOT difficult or painful!

Giving birth the natural way is VERY painful and it is IMPOSSIBLE to do it quietly. This is not somehting the celeb scientologists know, as they all have planned c-sections. Get real!

    I agree with first "anonymous".
