Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are reportedly planning to marry in a romantic Italian castle, Bracciano's Castello Odescalchi, next weekend. But the the Catholic priest with jurisdiction over the castle says he won't marry the couple because Cruise is twice-divorced. The mayor of the area has alot ruled out a civil service because the pair have not provided the official documentation needed. Monsignor Nicola Fiorentini says, "Cruise is divorced. Even if the actor were not divorced, another fundamental requirement to validate the rite would be missing: the authorization of the parish."
Mayor Riccioni adds, "I don't think it will be legal. On an Italian level, there are papers and documents that we certainly don't have (for a wedding)."
I had been wondering how they were going to have a Catholic wedding when he's twice-divorced and they had a child before marriage. This all leads me to believe that these two are incredibly clever and these "plans" that have been leaked are not at all accurate. I'm eager to see them get married, but I think we're all going to be quite surprised by the way it actually goes down.
