Nicole Richie beat Christina Aguilera to the delivery room last month and she's beating her again at the newstands this month. Both new moms were featured with their tots on the cover of People magazine, but Richie's is expected to sell more copies. (Nicole's cover with Harlow is expected to sell 1.8 million copies while Christina's sold much less.)
The difference apparently comes from the different demographics making up their fan bases. A magazine insider says, "Christina historically doesn't do that well on covers," citing poor sales of her wedding photo issue in OK! and low sales of her nude photo shoot in the
January 2008 issue of Marie Claire.
While Nicole Richie doesn't seem like someone who would send issues flying of the racks, the source says: "There's also a greater element of curiosity with Nicole. She's gone public about being a heroin addict. Her boyfriend is covered in tattoos. By default, she's got the more interesting baby. People want to see how she settles down. They want to see what kind of baby someone with her background has."
Richie welcomed daughter Harlow on Jan. 11, one day before Aguilera gave birth to son Max.
