Paul McCartney Files for Divorce

According to British news reports, Paul McCartney has officially filed for divorce from his estranged wife Heather Mills McCartney. The reason given for the divorce is Heather's "unreasonable behavior". According to a McCartney insider, the behavior included being "rude to the staff" and "argumentative". Mills reportedly is planning to fight the case vigorously in both Britain and America.

"Heather's going to be filing her own counterclaims about matters both in this country and America," her U.K. rep tells PEOPLE. Because there is no pre-nuptial agreement, at stake is a share of the 64-year-old musician's fortune – estimated to top $1.5 billion – along with the custody of their 2-year-old daughter, Beatrice.

In Britain, once documents are files, a marriage may be dissolved in as little as six weeks. However, given the indication that Mills may fight the divorce it may be a very long while until the divorce is completed.

"It's a battlefield and it has become mind-boggling, not just because of Paul's fame but because of the constant stream of stories," says a long-term friend of the musician. "But now with Heather announcing she is prepared to fight, things are just going to get uglier."

Such a shame. And all the papers were reporting not so long ago that she was going to do the right thing and settle for 10 or so million and be done with it. Of course, now greed gets the best of her, which I knew it would. She was no good from the beginning, in my opinion. Paul must be kicking himself for not making her sign a prenup. Considering the amazing relationship he had with his lovely wife Linda, I can't believe he ever thought that Heather would measure up to her. Such a waste. And why is she suing in America? They don't live here, do they?

  2. Their situation is a bit confusing especially because there are different news outlets reporting different things everyday. I always expected it to get a little nasty, but she needs to be very careful because she really looks bad to the public.

I believe that they live primarily in the UK, but have at least one residence in New York. She may be able to litigate here because they live here part of the time or she thinks that she may get a more positive outcome. She's known, but not as well-known here so there is as much negative feeling towards her which may help in the divorce settlement. Just my thoughts.
