Biome 5: Eco-friendly Tees for Animal Lovers

I have been blessed with a child who loves animals and nature. Many kids like animals, my son LOVES them. He watches animal documentaries and tells the biologists at the zoo all of the animal facts they attempt to teach him. The library at his school started special ordering books to feed his interest. He's planning to be an animal rescuer when he grows up. He truly loves animals and nature.

So when I discovered the tees by BioMe5, I was absolutely thrilled. The BioMe5 alphabet shirts are all inspired by the Earth's biomes (deserts, grasslands, aquatics, forests, etc.). The collection (A - Z) is full of vibrant colors, super-size letters, and awesome animal graphis showing the residents of the various biomes.

Designed by two architectural designers in Venice, California, the tees capture the world from the child's perspective. The animal names on the shirts are even upside down, so the child can read what they say as they wear them!

Each tees is constructed from certified organic cotton and shipped in biodegradable plastic bags.

Available in sizes from 2T - 6T. (I'm crossing my fingers that they start making the tees for older kids.)

They have just released a long-sleezed version of the tees just in time for fall.

Check them out at http://www.biome5.com/

Shootsie: Ultra Silky Blankets for Baby

If you spend much time shopping for baby blankets, you're used to seeing beautiful plush blankies in traditional baby colors in baby friendly fabrics. A new addition to the baby blanket selection is Shootsie who have introduced an amazing collection of ultra-plush blankets for baby constructed in satin. Yes, satin for babies. I was amazed at how durable they truly are.

The Shootsie Collection of satin blankets are created in a variety of bright color combinations, ultra soft satin fabric, and contain such a high-level of detail elements that they are ideal for a pampered tot. The hand quality of the blanket including the ruffles, hand-stitching, and other fine details make them an heirloom treasure sure to be loved by both mom and child for years to come. The blankets are all machine washable so even though they look too good for baby to use, they are designed to take a beating.

They are a little spendy with prices ranging from $122 - $144. You may not want to purchase one yourself, but when your friends and family ask for shower requests I'd put it near the top of my list.

My personal favorite is the Rock-A-Bye-Shootsie blanket in "mud brown, lilac and parrot green". The unique color combination would make a perfect shower gift for either a girl or a boy.

Another Shootsie bonus, a portion of their proceeds goes to support the International Rhino Foundation an organization created to protect the endangered Black Rhino population of the world.

Zeichen Press: Funky Cards with a Retro Flare

There is something incredibly nostalgic about the feel of the cards from Zeichen Press -- that is until you read the funny, funky messages that put a modern twist on a retro look.

The cards, coasters, and cd cases created using an antique letterpress complete with vintage printer blocks, wood type, and antique lead for a truly vintage finished product. The use of the vintage method gives the cards a layer of texture and depth that today's printers just cannot capture.

The witty messages are sure to bring a smile to your face.

A sampling for new moms include: "Eat, Sleep, Poop -- Repeat", "I'm Glad You're Having a Baby -- And I'm Not", and "Hey I Wasn't Born Yesterday - Just Kidding I Totally Was". They have a complete line with cards available to mark just about any cardworthy event. (They even do custom design work if you want something really, really unique.)

Founded by two sisters-in-law in Minneapolis. Jen and Fran have an easy rule for their messages: "I write something and if Jen laughs, we use it," says Fran.

Available at select retailers.

Twinkle-Kids: Taking Kids Tees to the Next Level

I admit it, I'm a crafter. I have a room, "my studio", that is filled with fabric and papers and all kinds of pretty things. The studio is my sanctuary and my happy place in a world full of energenic boys.

When I saw the tees by Twinkle-kids, the crafter in me was extremely impressed. Each of their adorable tees are created out of 100% cotton and embellished with soft wool felt. The felt gives the design an extra element of style and texture.

Twinkle-kids was created by two good friends and inspired by a set of Twins. "Twin"-kle kids is definitely inspired by a love of crafts and metropolitan tastes which are both evident in the quality and workmanship in their products.

Their styles are simple and stylish in a variety of today's popular color combos. Definitely check out their skyline tee, it's my personal favorite!

Blue Eye Boy: Jewelry with Boys in Mind

Moms of little boys sometimes get the short end of the stick when it comes to kids accessories. Little girls come with frilly socks, playful jewelry, and all kinds of ribbons and bows. Little boys come with baseball caps. Unless of course you count dirt which happens to be my boys number one fashion accessory.

I was delighted to find Blue Eye Boy and their collection of jewelry designed for little boys. The collection is designed with today's boys in mind and feature a variety of "boy" themes like camo, bones, and baseballs.

To put it in my seven-year-old's words as he saw the camo necklace for the first time, "That is so cool!!!!!"

If you are looking for a great gift for the little guys in your life definitely check out Blue Eye Boy today. It may earn you the title of cool mom at least for a little while!
