The Duggars Debate: How Many Kids Are Too Many?

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are featured on the cover of this week's issue of People magazine. Inside the issue, the couple shares photos of their 19th child, Josie Brooklyn, who was born premature.

Although Josie was born three months premature after Michelle suffered preemclampsia, the couple reveal that they're open to having more kids saying, "You can't let fear direct your lives."

Josie arived on December 10 and weighed only 1 lb. 6 oz. She is still in a neonatal intensive care unit.

"When I say we would love more children, we open ourselves up for attack," Michelle admits. "It is not as if we're going for another [baby] immediately. This is going to be a year of different focus for me, getting Josie through her first year of life."

    Shame on People's Magizine!!!

How many kids the Duggers have is their business and theirs alone. It takes a special person to endure so many births. They are debt free and the kids are well taken care of. If you want to lecture on how someone lives perhaps you should look upon your own life before you criticize others.

It would be totally different if they lived in debt and is sponging off the government. Which IS NOT the case.

I agree with the first post...People asks, "How many kids are too many?...the answer; when you are accepting welfare, foodstamps, W.I.C., medicaid/medicare to support your children and pay for the birth and health care of those children.......the Duggers, may God bless them if they want 19 more. They are caring for the children they have and not sponging off the government programs.

I agree! I am a teacher and see people with ONE child that they can't support. Good parents with 19 children are way better than bad parents with 1 child.

I couldn't agree more. The Duggars contribute more responsibility, courage, and ingenuity to the needs of our culture than any other American family I know of! Government is broke, trying to glue together what individual citizens won't keep together. This family deserves a standing ovation for working like Olympians to raise honest, intelligent, good-hearted citizens for our future!

I agree with the previous posters, althought I think Michelle deserves an award to endure so many births. I am 38 and on my fourth and get very aggrivated when people ask me if I'm done or if I want more and they act all surprised when I say yes. It's not their business as long as my husband & I are responsible adults in the care of our children. We don't rely on the government to care for our children. Same goes for the Duggars. As long as no ones health or wellbeing is in danger, they are a tight knit family & will always care for each other. Imagine if more families pulled together this way.
