Rolling Stone's Looks Inside Britney's Turbulent Life

Rolling Stone takes a look at the life of Britney Spears to date and her downward spiral.

Some of the highlights from the article:

• Her mother, Lynne, allowed her to get to get breast implants before she had fully developed. After getting the implants a friend says “she regretted the implants, particularly because her chest was still growing. When her natural breasts became larger, she had the implants removed.” Even after having them removed, she kept the surgeries a secret. The friend adds, “When other girls did their boobs [they admitted it] and moved on, but Britney was brought up to lie about herself.”

• The singer has not had a good relationship with her father primarily due to his battle with alcohol. “It was upsetting for Britney Spears to be around her dad,” a friend reveals. “He came backstage one night, and he was wasted. She was devastated. Britney would tell friends that her father was emotionally abusive.”

• At the height of her career in the 1990s, she was enticed to work around the clock by her label. “If she didn’t want to come out of the trailer, the label would come to me saying, ‘Please talk to Britney, make sure she performs, and we’ll take you on a shopping spree,’” a close friend says.

• Throughout her career, she wanted to wanted to "appear sluttier,” in order to appear more mature. “Every girl in America was wearing crop tops and booty shorts, and Britney felt like she was being held back,” says a friend. “She would joke about wanting to do videos topless.”

• Britney’s split from Justin Timberlake in 2002 split left her devastated. “Justin had his head screwed on so straight... He became the great force in her life, but it started a pattern — she began to look for guys to help her get away from the people who could control her,” an insider says.

• Sam Lutfi — who recently had a restraining order enacted against him — may be planning to write a book based on his experiences with the troubled singer. “You know, this is so much more than a magazine article — we’ve been doing dictation, she’s been telling me her story, and I’ve been writing it all down. It would make a great book!” Lutfi says.

  1. I agree that this situation is very sad, but an "American Tragedy"? Seriously?
