Britney Spears' family is not happy with Dr. Phil.
Family spokesperson Lou Taylor appeared on this mornings Today show and stated that Dr. Phil violated the family's trust by making public statements about his weekend hospital visit with the troubled pop star. She went on to say that the family never had plans to do a show with McGraw about the stars breakdown.
"It was decided it would be detrimental to ever do that," said Taylor. She stated that it was entirely "self-serving" for McGraw to request the family appear on the show at such a turbulent time.
The biggest issue is the fact that McGraw issued a public statement about the visit and reportedly compromised the relationship between Britney and her parents.
"What's wrong with Dr. Phil's statement," said Taylor, "is that he made a statement. The family, basically, extended an invitation of trust for him to come in as a resource to support them, not to go out and make public statements."
Following his visit to the hospital McGraw issued the following statement to Entertainment Tonight: "My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of medical and psychological intervention ... "
Taylor expanded, "He was not invited to make this part of a public display or part of the media."
