Sinead O'Connor Stands Up for Britney

Sinead O'Connor appears on today's episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss bipolar disorder and her suicide attempts.

During the conversation, the topic shifted to the difficulties facing Britney Spears right now.

“She had two babies within the space of two years, (there) doesn’t seem like a terrible amount of support from the people around her,” says O’Connor said.

“I think to attack someone as a mother is very dangerous. I would say that’s what puts a young girl on a precipice which is very, very dangerous, in my opinion. Some people may end up really regretting the way they’re treating her.”

She adds: “I think it’s terrible what the media are doing to her here. I feel so sorry for celebrities in this country [the United States]. It’s absolutely impossible to live a normal life being followed around, poor girl. We all mess up, don’t we, as moms. We never always get it right.”

As for her own children—Jake, Róisín, Shane and Yeshua, O'Connor gives them credit for helping to keep herself going. "I'd be a headless chicken without the kids, yeah, definitely," she says. "They create a routine."
