Christy Brinkly has had a rough year. First she had a bitter split with husband Peter Cook last July, then the supermodel burst a disc in her spin during a December skiing accident.
Despite her recent difficulties, Brinkley has navigated all of this year's hurdles with an aura of grace and offers support to other women going through similar difficulties. She says, "A lot of women write me and say they are going through similar things - it's wonderful support."
Brinkley has a way of making lemons and turning them into lemonade - literally having served some up to the paprazzi last summer.
“They were down there at the end of the driveway at the height of the heat wave,” explains Brinkley. “I was going out to take my daughter Alexa to the train, and there was a question of, ‘What do we do?’ I said, ‘They’ve been down there all day, and they’ve got to be sweltering. It’s not healthy.’ So I grabbed a couple of big boxes of Popsicles, and then I thought, Why not bring down my stop global warming bracelets for everybody? As long as the media are there, they might as well write about something that matters.”
For the rest of the heat wave, she made lemonade and had it taken out to the thirsty photographers.
Brinkley currently resides in the Hamptons with her two youngest children, Jack, 11, and Sailor, eight. Her children are her passion which can be seen throughout her home: small pair of cowboy boots and a petite pink parasol in the foyer; math awards taped to the fridge; and a staircase lined with artwork made by all three of her brood.
“One of the most wonderful things about being a parent is that you’re born with your interests and your visions, then you have people in your life that you love so much, and they bring you their own view of the world,” Brinkley says of her children. “It expands your own boundaries in the most beautiful way.”
