Anne Heche is publically denying claims from her ex-husband that she's a bad parent. The actress says she has a close relationship with her 5-year-old son, Homer, even though she is the sole working parent for the family.
Heche and her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Coley Lafoon, are currently going through a bitter divorce with custody of Homer one of the key issues. Heche is seeking full custody of the child.
"We hired a baby nurse before he was born, but before she came through our front door, I asked Coley to let her go," Heche writes in a filing with the court. "I wanted the responsibility. I changed his diapers. I burped him. I bathed him. I held him close to my body all day, keeping him in a sling around me even when I was cooking or walking."
She says she has maintained the mother-son bond despite shooting her TV series Men in Trees in Vancouver. Homer often visits his mom in Vancouver during filming.
"Homer has strong relationships with each of the cast members and a lot of the crew members who play with him," she writes. "Each director calls Homer the 'little director,' letting him call 'action' and 'cut' for my scenes."
Laffoon claims in his court papers that Heche has made poor parenting decisions and has repeatedly demonstrated "bizarre and delusional behavior."
The two are scheduled for mediation June 5, and for a hearing on June 11.
