Alexa Ray Joel, the daughter of Billy Joel and Christy Brinkley, has been busy making headlines of her own. Alexa has been working very hard over the past few years to establish herself as a musical artist separate of her famous parents. Over the weekend, Alexa spent some time playing to the crowds at the New Orleans Jazz Festival only to return home to a semi-nasty post by Perez Hilton criticizing her appearance. If you read Perez's site, you know what kind of commentary he often gives and how nasty some of the commenters can get.
Well, Ms. Joel got very upset and vented her frustration on her myspace blog. In the post, Alexa Ray called Perez "quite dangerous," and was sickened to see commenters "picking apart the appearance" of her "8 year-old sister".
The singer has released about the incident the following statement to US Weekly:
"To paraphrase my father, he always said: 'don't take any crap from anybody.' I've had a lot of people advise me in this industry to get a thicker skin and turn a blind eye to the vicious trends of the tabloid publications and blog-sites, and their dangerous effects on young women, and society in general. But if I were to follow their advice, and do nothing, I feel I would only be perpetuating something which I believe to be fundamentally wrong. I stand by my original posting."
