Catherine Zeta Jones Adapting to a New Hollywood Pecking Order

At a time when it seems actresses in Hollywood are becoming increasingly younger and skinnier, Catherine Zeta Jones is reportedly having difficulty finding her place in the new pecking order.

Living a quiet life with husband Michael Douglas and their children Dylan and Carys with most of their time spent away from Hollywood in Bermuda, has left the once upcoming star falling from the tinsletown radar.

A Hollywood insider says: "You could say she's getting a bit old to be the ingenue lead and too young to move into the character roles, but the fact is that she is not as in demand as people like Nicole Kidman or Cate Blanchett.

"She is not perceived as being in their league. If they can't do a film, then people will wait until they are free, but that's not the case with Catherine."

This dilemma coupled with reports of Jones holding hands with her "No Reservations" co-star Aaron Eckhart have caused much speculation on the status of her marriage. Douglas was reportedly "furious" about the pictures of his wife holding hands with Eckhart.

Douglas' changing lifestyle from huge Hollywood star to content house husband with the arrival of Dylan in 2000 is also been a contributing factor in Catherine's struggle to find her place in Hollywood. Now the higher profile of the two start, the Hollywood balance of power has shifted considerably.

Douglas is focused at being the best dad he can be this time around after being absent for much of his son, Cameron's, childhood.

He has said: "I've spent a good part of my life working hard and my priorities were 'career first, family second'. Things worked out well work-wise, but not so well marriage-wise first time around.

"So once I decided to start a family at my age, it's something to cherish and enjoy. At the same time, Catherine is in the prime of her career, so I knew something had to give."

Douglas appears to be accepting that his days as a Hollywood sex symbol are over and is transitioning to a semi-retirement lifestyle preferring to spend his time with the kids, playing golf, and tending to some investments he owns.

Catherine herself is not quite ready for retirement remaining extremely ambitious and not yet 40. The changing tides have her spending more time away from the family on remote sets and finding her place in an ever changing Hollywood.

We'll just have to wait and see how the couple finds the balance between the two worlds.
