Kate Winslet has won undisclosed libel damages from Grazia magazine which alleged that the actress was seeing a diet doctor in order to slim down. The actress has been very vocal about her refusal to give in to the Hollywood pressue to be skinny.
"I am delighted that this matter has been resolved, and the record set straight," Winslet said in a statement. "I am not a hypocrite. I have always been, and shall continue to be, honest when it comes to body/weight issues."
The magazine must issue an apology as well as pay the actress damages and legal costs.
In the court proceedings, it was revealed that the actress had seen Dr Yi Pan at his Chinese Healing Insitute in California for a net injury and not for help in losing weight.
"[Grazia] stated [in the article]... that Kate had approached a doctor for help with her weight despite the fact that she has previously said that she will not bow to Hollywood pressure of being skinny," said her attorney, Rachel Atkins. "The article suggested she had lied to the public."
Winslet intends to donate the damages that she receives to help people with eating disorders.
"Grazia magazine has apologized to me in full, and admitted that their story was incorrect, which gives me tremendous peace of mind," Winslet said her statement. "I feel very strongly that 'curves' are natural, womanly and real."
"I shall continue to hope that women are able to believe in themselves for who they are inside, and not feel under such incredible pressure to be unnaturally thin," she said. "I am donating the 'damages' given to me by Grazia, to an eating disorder charity."
Kate is beautiful inside and out!
