Spears reportedly arrived at the San Fernando Valley salon at around 7 p.m. Friday night after it had closed and spent several minutes crying in her car before the owner opened the shop for her.
She was accompanied by two bodyguards and walked in with a hoodie covering her head and told Tognozzi, "'I want you to buzz my hair off.'"
Tognozzi tried to talk Spears out of the rash decision which prompted Spears to take up the shears and do it herself. 
Spears didn't pay for the haircut, but the owner jokes, "Now I'm charging $200 for the Brit-Buzz Special!"
Britney left through the back door and headed straight for a tattoo parlor. When asked by Tognozzi if haircut was a symbol of a new beginning. Britney replied: "'Something like that.'"
Lynne Spears has reportedly arrived in Los Angeles to try to help her daughter.
