US Weekly: Brad & Angelina’s Baby Joy!

How does a hospital prepare for the most anticipated birth in celebrity history? Total lockdown. On May 27, the outside signs were removed, blinds closed and doors locked at the Cottage Medi-Clinic in Swakipmund, Namibia. That evening, around 9 P.M., Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt made her entrance into the world via C-section, joining mom Angelina Jolie, 31, father Brad Pitt, 42, and her adopted siblings Maddox, 4, and Zahara, 17 months.

Paparazzi Diary: In Pursuit of Baby Brangelina

In the end, even the identity of the hospital was a state secret.

In an exclusive ongoing diary for TMZ, a paparazzo in Namibia discusses the government's final efforts to keep Brad and Angelina's new baby from the press. Her account follows:

The months-long cat and mouse game between the stars and the paparazzi culminated with Angelina giving birth at the Cottage MediClinic Hospital in Namibia.

The choice of Cottage was itself a head-fake, following incorrect reports that the baby would be born at the private Welwitschia Hospital instead.

Photographing the parents was all but impossible. Security vehicles caravaning with the couple split up to keep the press off their tails, with a decoy driving to Walvis Bay-- where the couple's compound is located-- while a car with Angelina, Brad and the children drove via back roads into the hospital, using a back entrance for her admittance.

According to a top paramedic, the Cottage MediClinic maternity ward is famous for its tight security and efficiency, which is why Brad and Angelina were comfortable with not having the hospital visibly guarded. The hospital was unusually quiet on Sunday -- locked up except for the managerial staff. Even the sign of the hospital had been removed.

According to a government statement the baby, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, could be given Namibian citizenship if the parents choose to do so. The statement said the family will remain in Namibia "for some time" to allow Angelina and the new baby time to recuperate.

Meanwhile, tensions between Brangelina and the press continued. John Liebenberg, a South African photographer, appeared in court on Monday on charges of trespassing at the Tiger Reef Beach Bar. He had been caught trying to shoot pictures as the happy family was enjoying some "time out."

Brangelina bodyguard Mickey Brett denied having anything to do with the reportedly excessively tough security measures that had been dished out, and also said he had nothing to do with the arrest of the photographer. He said that his security team is simply doing their job to keep the cameras off Angelina. "Angelina and the children have to hide behind curtains all day because you photographers won't leave them alone," he said. "Of course we are going to make sure that she is left alone, but it seems as though the press continues to twist everything I say in all the newspapers - I've even been called a thug," he added.

But with the loyal support of the Namibian government, Brad and Angelina have set a precedent of privacy at a price. Namibia now seems to be the place where superstars can jet in, secure their piece of paradise, and, with the blessing of the government, send the media packing.

Mira Sorvino Has a Boy

Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino and her husband Chris Backus have welcomed their second child, a boy named Johnny, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

The baby, who was born on Monday at 5:50 p.m. at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills, arrived a week before his due date. He weighed in at 7 lbs., 14 oz., and was 21 inches long.

"Both mother and son are doing very well and are both very healthy," the actress's rep Ed Choi, tells PEOPLE. "The entire family is thrilled at the addition of a baby brother for their daughter, Mattea."

The couple's first child, Mattea Angel, was born in November of 2004. Shortly after the birth, Backus told PEOPLE: "(Mattea) is the cutest little baby in the whole wide world."

When Sorvino announced in January that she was expecting her second child, she told PEOPLE: "I'm so excited that Mattea is going to have a sibling. We're going to be a family of four."

Sorvino, 38, and Backus, 24, married in June of 2004. They met at a friend's charades party the previous summer. "He walked into the kitchen looking for silverware. We saw each other and something made us want to talk to each other more," Sorvino told PEOPLE of the couple's first encounter.

The pair got engaged within a month of meeting and had two weddings. The first was a private civil service at the Santa Barbara Courthouse, the second a hilltop ceremony in Italy's Capri, where guests feasted on pasta in lobster sauce and a three-tier chocolate sponge cake topped with Mira and Chris lookalike figures.

"Mira looked like a young girl in seventh heaven," one witness told PEOPLE of the Italian ceremony.

Sorvino, who is the daughter of actor Paul Sorvino, won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Woody Allen's 1995 film Mighty Aphrodite.

Brad, Angelina Thank Hospital

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who welcomed daughter Shiloh in Namibia on Saturday, tell PEOPLE in an exclusive statement: “We would like to deeply thank the staff of the Cottage Medi-Clinic Hospital for all their kindness and commitment in assuring the successful birth of our daughter.”

The couple’s obstetrician from Los Angeles, Jason Rothbart, M.D., was assisted by the local staff of the Cottage Medi-Clinic Hospital.

"Angelina underwent a scheduled cesarean due to breech presentation," Dr. Rothbart tells PEOPLE exclusively. "The baby was a healthy 7 lbs. Brad was with Angelina in the operating room the entire time and cut the umbilical cord of his daughter. The surgery and birth went flawlessly. The staff, nurses and doctors I worked with at the Cottage Medi-Clinic Hospital were amazing, it was a team effort."

The Cottage Medi-Clinic, in the coastal town of Swakopmund, Namibia, is a private hospital with nine doctors and nine nurses tending to the eight-bed obstetrics unit.

Doctors in the unit do their best to make childbirth an experience the whole family can share in. They encourage rooming in – that is, babies and mothers staying in the same room – and breastfeeding and feeding on demand. Both parents are encouraged to bathe the baby, and fathers and siblings are welcome to visit – good news for Shiloh's brother Maddox, 4, and sister Zahara, 1.

More Details on Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's Birth

According to In Touch, here is THE LATEST info on the birth of little Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.

- Shiloh was born on May 28 at 1:40 a.m. local time (which was May 27 at 8:40 p.m. EST), said the provincial governor.

- Brad Pitt was overcome with emotions as doctors delivered their first biological child in Swakopmund, Namibia.

- The baby weighed in at 7 pounds, says an insider.

- Shiloh was delivered by Angelina's private doctor, who flew in from Los Angeles to perform a C-section.

- Shiloh was in the breech position - feet first - necessitating the surgery.

- Rumors placed the birth at the Cottage Hospital, but insiders insist it took place at the Burning Shore Lodge.

- During the birth, Brad and Angie's son, Maddox was with a babysitter, while Zahara was cradled by a nurse. Angie's brother, James Haven, "hovered near the doorway" during the delivery. Brad's brother, Doug Pitt, who was in Paris, expects to see his new niece soon.

- Brad brought the kids to meet Shiloh and they all gave Angelina gifts. Maddox gave his mom red flowers and Brad gave Angelina a colorful, braided cloth bracelet made by a young girl from a nearby village. He also bought similar bracelets for himself, Shiloh, Maddox and Zahara.

- While friends say Maddox is thrilled with his new baby sister, a witness did hear him complaining to his dad that Shiloh "sleeps a lot." Brad was then heard explaining, "That's what babies do when they've just been born, Mad. They sleep."

- Brad, who once said, "little girls just crush me. They break my heart", has been handing out cigars to everyone he sees and sending emails to friends describing little Shiloh.

- Angelina and Brad have already donated $300,000 to two Namibian state hospitals, as well as $15,000 to a community center in Swakopmund.

- Parenthood definitely agrees with Angelina, who is already talking about adopting more kids - and traveling around the world with them.

- Insiders say the Jolie-Pitt brood will leave their temporary home at the Burning Shore Lodge in Namibia in mid-June, stop in Paris for a short vacation, then return, finally, to their renovated Malibu mansion.

- Angelina really misses her mom, Marcheline, who really regretted not being able to be in Africa for the birth, and can't wait to see her and introduce her to Shiloh.

- Angelina has been estranged from her dad, actor Jon Voight, since 2002, when he revealed that she was adopting Maddox then publicly criticized her. As a peace offering, on May 20, Jon bought Shiloh three gifts - a rattle, a stuffed pig and a stuffed cow - at Glen Kids in Bel Air. "I just wish the best for her," he told a friend soon after the birth. "I hope, at some point, things will be different between us. I wish her the best because I love her."

- The night Angelina gave birth, Brad's ex-wife Jennifer Aniston was alone in her room at The Peninsula Hotel in Chicago - without her boyfriend Vince Vaughn. According to a witness, the next morning, Jen's bodyguard walked her dog Norman and picked up an assortment of newspapers, so she could read about Brad's firstborn child. "Jen's really relieved now that Angelina's given birth," says a friend of the actress. "It's finally over. The baby is born, she'll grow up and maybe now everybody will stop asking her about it."

Pitt, Jolie Donate to Namibia Hospitals

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt celebrated the birth of their daughter, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, in Namibia on Saturday by donating $300,000 to help other babies in the southern African country, the government there said in a statement.

"We want to contribute to Namibia and the people who have been so gracious to us at this time," Pitt, 42, and Jolie, 30, are quoted as saying in the statement.

Namibia's Deputy Environment and Tourism Minister, Leon Jooste, says the money will be used to improve maternity wards at hospitals in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund and will contribute significantly to the health of Namibian babies.

"The couple is thoroughly overjoyed by the event and have expressed their happiness to be able to share this experience in Namibia," the government statement adds.

Although Shiloh was born at a private facility, most Namibians rely on state hospitals like the ones that will benefit from Pitt and Jolie's gift, the Associated Press reports.

The new parents also pledged $15,000 for a school and a community center that they had visited in Swakopmund.

Earlier, Jooste had announced, "Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt will, according to Namibian law, be allowed to obtain Namibian citizenship, if the parents should choose to do so." He added that discussion of the child's passport will be taken up with her parents "at a later stage."

"Angie and baby are fantastic," a source close to the couple told PEOPLE on Sunday. "Brad was at her side during the birth."

While Namibian officials declined to give details on the birth, a doctor at the hospital said there were no complications and the mother and daughter were doing well.

"She is a healthy baby," the doctor told the AP, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release information.

Back in the U.S., the manager for Jolie's estranged father, Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, 67, told New York's Daily News that Voight is "really excited for them both. He can't wait to hold the baby in his arms and be grandpa."

Pitt and Jolie, along with kids Maddox, 4, and Zahara, 1, have been staying at a luxury resort in Namibia since April, where their personal security team and Namibian police have shielded them from paparazzi.

Jennifer Lopez Out with Leah Remini

Jennifer Lopez obviously hated that grey so she washed it away. These are the first photos of Jennifer Lopez with her roots touched up. Several weeks ago a magazine published photos showing her hair going grey at the part and speculated that normally super-groomed J.Lo would never allow this to happen unless she was pregnant. Many pregnant women refuse to color their hair, assuming that the chemicals used might leach into their system and harm their developing baby. Well, that's no longer an issue. J.Lo showed off her newly colored hair during a shopping trip with Leah Remini in West Hollywood. The two enjoyed a long hug before parting.

Fox Commentator Kimberly Guilfoyle Marries Fine Living Host Eric Villency -- the couple is expeciting a baby in the fall

Barbados, baby: Former San Francisco first lady and TV commentator Kimberly Guilfoyle, fresh from her finalized divorce from Mayor Gavin Newsom, carried her own little wedding present to Barbados this weekend for planned nuptials with socialite Eric Villency -- a baby.

According to the New York tabloids, the Fox TV legal hostess is several months pregnant, and it's a boy.

Guilfoyle, 37, became engaged to the 31-year-old furniture store scion at the end of last year, but she kept the wedding plans secret until her divorce from Newsom became final in February, the New York Post's Page Six says.

"The wedding was planned long before she learned she was with child," the Post says.

The New York Daily News' Cornell Fowler reports that Guilfoyle met Villency in October on a blind date.

Guilfoyle couldn't be reached for comment Friday.

Ex-hubby Newsom -- who reportedly just ended his relationship with TV star Sofia Milos -- was out of town for the long weekend and not commenting on Guilfoyle's pregnancy.

But one mayoral staffer quipped, "This was the worst-kept secret in town."

New Details on the Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's new daughter, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, is described as, "a beautiful baby — she has tufts of brown hair, and Brad's nose," says an insider at the Cottage Hospital in Swakopmund, Namibia, where Angelina gave birth.

The couple's first biological child was born via Caesarean section on Saturday, May 27. Brad was with Angelina's brother, James Haven, waiting anxiously in the hallway, says the insider. Angelina is described as doing "very well."

Their families are thrilled. "He loves children — he's very good with them," his grandmother Betty Russell tells In Touch .

"We just want them to relax and enjoy the whole thing," Brad's brother, Doug Pitt told In Touch . "I just want him to be able to enjoy the experience as much as possible without too much pressure. It's going to be great for them."

Angelina chose to give birth in Namibia because she's felt a connection to the country since filming the 2003 movie Beyond Borders. Close friends also say she wanted the new baby to have an international kinship with her siblings, Maddox and Zahara, who were adopted from Cambodia and Ethiopia, respectively. Samuel Nuuyoma, governor of the Erongo region of Namibia, issued a statement saying, “I wish Angelina and Brad good luck and a healthy life with their beautiful daughter… Just like Angelina, this precious Namibian-born baby will be our ambassador.”

Angelina & Brad Have a Girl!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have welcomed a baby girl, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, a rep for the couple confirms in a statement to PEOPLE.

The child was born on May 27, at night, in the African country of Namibia.

The new parents, along with kids Maddox, 4, and Zahara, 1, have been staying at a luxury resort in Namibia since April, where their personal security team and Namibian police have shielded them from paparazzi.

Last week, the Namibian government said foreign journalists wishing to cover the birth must have written permission from Pitt and Jolie to enter the country and obtain a work permit.

The new girl is the couple's first biological child. Jolie adopted Maddox from Cambodia in 2002 and Zahara from Ethiopia last year. Pitt is in the process of legally adopting both children.

The baby is the latest step in a life-changing year during which Pitt and Jolie went from costars (in last summer's slick crime thriller Mr. and Mrs. Smith) to supercouple to, finally, Mommy and Daddy.

"It's the idea that you love one another and you want to create a family together," a friend of the couple's told PEOPLE earlier this year. "What's beautiful is you can do it by birth (or) by adoption."

Word that Angelina was pregnant first broke on Jan. 11, when representatives of both stars confirmed the baby news to PEOPLE after the actress and U.N. goodwill ambassador had confided to a charity aid worker in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic: "Yes, I'm pregnant."

The pregnancy news – which came shortly after Pitt's announcement that he planned to adopt Maddox and Zahara – might have been a media bombshell, but it was a natural progression for the pair who put nest-building on the fast track.

Jolie, 30, had long spoken about expanding her family, and told PEOPLE last October that she would like to adopt again. "There's something about making a choice, waking up and traveling somewhere and finding your family," she said.

Pitt, 42, has also often talked about wanting a family. He has no children from his 4-year marriage to Jennifer Aniston, which ended last year.

"I think he'll be wonderful (with the new baby)," Pitt's Assassination of Jesse James costar, Mary-Louise Parker, told PEOPLE earlier this year. "He's a great guy, conscientious and kind. I'm happy for both of them."

Angelina scheduled for C-Section Saturday?

Angelina Jolie is scheduled to give birth by Caesarean section tomorrow, Saturday, May 27, In Touch has learned exclusively.

Although she had really wanted to have a natural birth, Angelina's doctors are urging her to have the procedure due to a minor complication. "There's nothing seriously wrong,” an insider says. "They are expecting it all to be routine.”

Angelina, 30, is scheduled to have the C-section at a Namibian hospital, according to the insider. The father of the child, Brad Pitt, 42, is expected to be by her side.

Angelina had been planning to give birth at the Burning Shore Beach Lodge in Swakopmund — the African resort where she, Brad and her two adopted children, Maddox, 4, and Zahara, 16 months, have been staying for the past two months. But the doctors have advised her she will be safer in a hospital.

The baby, a girl, will be delivered by her American ob-gyn, assisted by local doctors, the insider adds. “Everyone is very excited, Maddox in particular,” says an insider in Africa. “He knows he is getting a new baby sister, now they are telling him how soon it will be.”

The long-awaited birth is a week before Angelina's June 3 due date.

Jude, Sienna Cozy Up – Again

Could it be? After all the tearful confessions and confrontations, have Jude Law and Sienna Miller finally overcome Nannygate?

It certainly seemed that way at the Hollywood hot spot Shag on May 22, as Law and Miller got close and cuddly over vodka tonics, PEOPLE reports in its new issue.

Lindsay Lohan kept the lovebirds company in their V.I.P. booth, and even volunteered to head outside first at the end of the night, creating a flashbulb frenzy that prevented photographers from catching on to the comely duo.

Couples who dodge paparazzi together, stay together?

It wouldn't be the first time the formerly engaged actors have appeared to be on the mend. In November, Law attended the Los Angeles premiere of Miller's movie, Casanova.

Asked by the Associated Press whether she and Law were back together, Miller replied, "Well, it's pretty obvious, isn't it?" She added, "We're working things out."

But earlier this year, Miller was spotted kissing her Factory Girl costar Hayden Christensen.

The couple became engaged in December 2004, but split after Law publicly apologized in July 2005 for cheating on Miller with his children's nanny.

Nelly Furtado on Motherhood

"This album wouldn't have existed if I wasn't a mother," she said. "That's why I called it Loose. It has this really youthful energy."

The single mum's view of the music industry has also changed since Nevis' arrival and she's now more determined than ever to carve a successful career. Speaking of motherhood, she said: "It really made me take my job more seriously. It made me think about providing (for Nevis) and her future." Things are already looking good for her latest album, with the single Promiscuous already climbing up the American charts and gaining publicity with its sexy video.

The accompanying music video shows her rapping and getting groovy on the dancefloor, thanks to some help from a choreographer and her Miami friends who taught her "how to shake my booty properly". Although Nelly grew up dancing she has never been properly trained and felt there was a gap between her skills and those of Justin Timberlake, who features in a cameo role on the single.

"When I came into the pop business I was intimidated," admitted the star in a recent interview with MTV. "I have to compete with all these people who've been in 'The Mickey Mouse Club' since they were two! And Justin, the fact he's a schooled dancer, he's just a triple threat. It's amazing when you have that skill."

It's a Boy for Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani and her husband of three years, rocker Gavin Rossdale, welcomed their first child together on Friday – a 7 1/2 lb. baby boy named Kingston James McGregor Rossdale.

Stefani gave birth at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Both mother and child are doing well, said her rep in a statement.

Stefani had long been open about her desire to be a mom. "I'm hoping my children will save me from my vanity," she told PEOPLE in 2004.

One thing is for certain: The baby will be well-dressed.

In recent months, Stefani and Rossdale were spotted stocking up on baby goods at trendy London boutiques like Elias & Grace in the couple's Primrose Hill neighborhood. And Stefani, a successful fashion designer, has added clothes for babies and toddlers to her Harajuku Lovers line.

Stefani first announced her pregnancy last December during a concert in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. "I want you to say it loud enough so the baby hears it," Stefani yelled to the audience during a sing-along on her song "Crash." The crowd went wild.

"This is the end of a huge chapter for me," Stefani added. A camera then cut to an audience member holding a hand-lettered poster that read: "Congrats on Baby."

Stefani, 36, and Rossdale, 40, married in September 2002 in two separate ceremonies: a London wedding at St. Paul's Church and Los Angeles nuptials two weeks later.

The pair began dating in 1995, when Stefani's band, No Doubt, toured as openers for Rossdale's then-group, Bush.

This is the first child for Stefani; Rossdale discovered in 2004 that he has a 16-year-old daughter, Daisy, with his ex, fashion designer Pearl Lowe.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale Have Baby Boy

Sources at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles confirm to Us that Gwen Stefani gave birth today to a baby boy shortly before 1 p.m.

After the delivery, Rossdale and Stefani’s father walked out of the operating room and greeted waiting family in a private room. Rossdale announced that the baby had been born and the entire room started screaming and clapping. Sources say the rocker parents are considering calling him Kingston, or “King” for short.

Stefani and Rossdale arrived at Cedars-Sinai this morning where doctors plan to induce labor and deliver the couple’s child via C-section at noon PST. Rossdale dropped his wife off at the maternity ward, parked Stefani’s silver Range Rover and “seemed a little nervous and he checked the baby car seat before he got out,” according to a witness. Rossdale then took the elevator to the maternity ward. “Gwen was wearing her signature red lipstick and looked so excited,” the onlooker added.

Stefani, 36, announced her pregnancy last December during the final concert stop of her band No Doubt. “This is the end of a huge chapter for me,” she said at the time. Her tour completed, the singer spent the remainder of her pregnancy relaxing, swimming, and getting weekly manicures and pedicures near her Los Feliz home in Los Angeles, California.

The couple met in 1995 when No Doubt opened for Rossdale’s former band Bush, and they married in September 2002, in two separate ceremonies in London and Los Angeles. Rossdale, 38, has a 16-year old daughter, Daisy Lowe from a previous relationship…sounds like a built-in babysitter to us. Congratulations!

When Kate Moss Attacks

Frankly, we're lucky Kate Moss won't be taking any penalties for England in the World Cup.

She's not all that good at hitting the target.

Her latest target was a snapper who'd apparently done something to nark her as she went to visit a friend in north London.

She suddenly deviated from her head-down, walk directly to destination routine whilst being followed by a paparazzo, and appeared to adopt a kung fu-style kick.

It didn't connect with the photographer but, once safely inside her mate's front garden, she turned round and gave him a stern telling-off - complete with finger wag.

Kate has become the focus of paps in the last few days, as they try to get a shot of her with Russell Brand - who's been spotted going in and out of her pad.

Sharon Promotes a Good Cause at Cannes

Sharon Stone and Robin Williams kept the jokes coming at an AIDS charity dinner in Cannes – but also made sober comments about the deadly disease.

"There are now 14 million people with the illness," Stone said at Thursday night's fundraiser for the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR). "We can't stop until we have a vaccine."

At the auction at the Cinema Against AIDS dinner benefiting amfAR, Williams – who during cocktail hour walked around pretending to be part of the waitstaff – put in the winning bid of $40,000 for an Armani black-and-white cylindrical diamond necklace.

"I just bought a $40,000 coke vial," he quipped.

Trying to spur bidding above $60,000 for a vacation package in the south of France, he joked, "One picture of Angelina Jolie's baby and you can buy this."

Later Williams jumped on stage to sing with Wyclef Jean, and then paid $80,000 for an impromptu performance by the singer-activist.

Stone also brought levity to the proceedings, telling guests, "Before the auction we have already made $2 million. But don't think that means I'm not coming for your cash!" The dinner raised more than $4 million.

Other celebrity guests included Rosario Dawson and boyfriend Jason Lewis, Sofia Coppola, Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes, Ziyi Zhang, Michelle Yeoh, Faye Dunaway, Samuel L. Jackson, Willem Dafoe and Petra Nemcova (who danced during Wyclef Jean's performance and took pictures for several guests from her front-row seat).

Lance Armstrong was in the men's room when he was called up to the podium to conduct an auction. To much laughter – and the sound system playing Queen's "Bicycle Race" – Armstrong dashed to the stage.

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York ("We've got a Duchess of York and some queens from Brooklyn," cracked Williams) told PEOPLE she was "delighted" to do her part at the dinner and spoke of a recent trip to Africa, where a little girl whose parents had died of AIDS asked Ferguson if she liked her dress. "It's heartbreaking," she said.

Though he was there to show his support, Babel star Gael Garcia Bernal told PEOPLE he didn't plan to bid on any of the auction items – because, after four days of interviews and "no more than two hours of sleep per night, I'm just surprised I haven't fallen asleep yet."

Babies: Celebrity Accessories

The buzz around town is the baby factor. Has the Chihuahua in a Louis Vuitton carrier been replaced by a baby in Burberry? Starlets that started the pregnancy train like Catherine Zeta Jones made pregnancy beautiful. While filming Chicago she Fosse-ed her way into the character of the sexy Velma Kelly. Then she continued to promote the movie and looked ravishing all while being pregnant. Even Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Jessica Parker still managed to be trendy is maternity.

People magazine will be pumping us with more celebrity offspring gossip on newsstands June 8th. From Angelina and Brad to the new Feder-fetus, babies are being crammed down our throats. The issue will contain more advertisements for baby paraphernalia as well.
What is more disturbing is the fact that very few of the current news-worthy couples should even been having kids. As obvious as it is to us, Britney can’t get it through her head that babies are not marital band-aids. Katie has gotten herself into a huge Scientology of a pickle. Poor Suri is constantly with the nanny and seems as though she has yet to see the light of day.

The publisher of People noticed high magazine sales of anything with an infant on the cover, hence the issue being devoted to all that is baby. So why are we so interested in the Hollywood baby trend? Well my guess is that we are just nosey bastards. Personally I rather see Jake Gyllenhaal in bicycle shorts any day.

Osmond daughters's shocking MySpace profiles

Marie Osmond was shocked to discover that the National Enquirer discovered sexually explicit material on her own daughters' MySpace profiles. Osmond's older daughter, 18-year-old Jessica, posted that she is bi-sexual and wants to have sex "as many times as possible, while 16-year-old Rachael identifies herself as a "slut" and "whore" who has fantasies about David Bowie. Osmond released a statement to the Enquirer saying, "I am saddened by some of the choices that two of our children have made. The insidious potential for harm from adolescent Internet sites like MySpace.com only exacerbates these kinds of problems. If my being a celebrity figure is good for anything, let it be as a voice of warning to other parents that no matter how protective we think we may have been with our children in the past, we need to become more knowledgeable and even more vigilant now in order to protect them."

Actress Debra Messing ready for 'The Women'

"The Women," which began as a Broadway hit in 1936 starring, among others, Arlene Francis and Marjorie Main, is probably more famous for its popular reincarnation as a major 1939 film by MGM directed by George Cukor and starring a who's who of that Hollywood studio's leading ladies such as Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Paulette Goddard, Rosalind Russell, Hedda Hopper, Joan Fontaine and Butterfly McQueen all joining Main, who reprised her stage role. Filmed in black and white, the film is still considered ground-breaking because it included a 10-minute sequence shot in Technicolor of a department store fashion show featuring designs by the famed Adrian. (This part, usually cut in the late, late show airings, has now been restored by Ted Turner.) The great F. Scott Fitzgerald even wrote the film's screenplay. The movie's 130 roles are all played by women and even all of the animals, from dogs to horses, used in the film are female.

Now that the NBC hit "Will&Grace" has left the small screen and had its final bows, actress Debra Messing has joined the cast of a big screen remake of "The Women." She'll co-star with Meg Ryan, Ashley Judd, Annette Benning, Uma Thurman and Sandra Bullock, with Diane English directing the picture, which will be released next year.

Kaballah Too Expense for Britney

“I no longer study Kaballah [sic], my baby is my religion,” Britney Spears recently wrote on her Web site. Sweet…but insiders say the real reason Spears bailed on the trendy religion has more to do with money than maternity. “She’s tired of the way [Kabbalah leaders] kept hassling her for money,” a source tells MSNBC.

“Actually, it was mostly her mother’s decision. They were always asking Britney to tithe [donate a percentage of her salary]. There was a lot of pressure, and finally her mom said, ‘Enough is enough.’” (Federlines, take note. Keep hassling Brit for money and she’ll cut you off like a $26 red piece of string.)

With Baby 'Imminent,' Brad Skips Cannes

Brad Pitt sent his regrets for failing to make it to the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday – though he had a good reason: "imminent" fatherhood.

The star was due to join costars Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal for Tuesday morning's screening of their movie Babel, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Instead, Pitt sent an e-mail that was read aloud at a press conference after the screening: "With the imminent arrival of the newest addition to our family, I am unable to join Alejandro, Cate, Gael and the rest of the cast and crew introducing the film."

He went on to say, "I am tremendously proud of Babel and want to congratulate everyone involved for this great achievement."

The ensemble drama tells several interweaving stories set in Mexico, Japan and Morocco – where Pitt shot scenes with Blanchett last year as speculation about his romance with Angelina Jolie reached a fever pitch.

Babel's gala world premiere is scheduled to take place at the Cannes Palais du Festival on Tuesday night.

Pitt has been vacationing in Namibia with the pregnant Jolie and their kids Maddox, 4, and Zahara, 1.

Geri Halliwell Names Daughter Bluebell

Inspired by the springtime flower, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has named her baby daughter, born May 14, Bluebell Madonna.

Saying she found the blooms inspiring during her pregnancy, the artist formerly known as Ginger Spice, 33, tells Britain's Hello! magazine, "What really clinched it for me was my mother telling me that the bluebell is increasingly rare – so it's a precious flower, which seems just right for my daughter."

As for the child's middle name, Halliwell says singer Madonna is one of her heroines.

"As she came out of my tummy, Bluebell had both arms flung wide in the air as if announcing to the world, 'Hi! I'm here!' " she tells Hello! "She was screaming her head off, as though she was shouting, `Hello, Wembley!' No one else has that name, apart from the Virgin Madonna and the singer, whom I love."

The baby weighed 5 lbs., 12 oz. when she was born at London's Portland Hospital.

In the magazine interview, Halliwell does not mention the child's father, who is reportedly The Terminal screenwriter Sacha Gervasi, 40.

Julia Roberts' weight loss worry

Julia Roberts has reportedly dropped to a skinny 7 1/2 stone - sparking fears for her health.

Friends of the flame-haired star are worried the stress of raising 18-month-old twins, Phinnaeus and Hazel, and performing in a Broadway play, 'Three Days of Rain', have taken their toll.

A pal of the star is quoted in Britain's Grazia magazine as saying: "Julia's gone from 9 stone 6lbs last summer to around 7 1/2 stone. She's painfully thin and bony."

Meanwhile, Roberts reportedly had to be counselled by Oprah Winfrey after fighting with husband Danny Moder.

The pair are said to have rowed after Moder said he wanted to leave a party early.

Talk show host Oprah was visiting Julia when she realised the actress was upset.

A source claimed: "Oprah sat the couple down and made them talk. Julia told Danny how hurt she was and he accepted he shouldn't have abandoned her.

Madonna Aims to Shock in New Tour

Madonna launched her first world tour in two years Sunday with a Los Angeles concert in which she hanged herself on a cross, dressed in S&M gear and screened images of President Bush juxtaposed with Adolf Hitler, among others.

The enthusiastic crowd at the Los Angeles Forum included Nicole Richie, Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna's Kabbalah guru, Rabbi Yehuda Berg.

During the two-hour concert – which began 50 minutes late – Madonna, 47, performed songs from her new album, Confessions on a Dancefloor, as well as such old hits as "Like a Virgin," "Ray of Light" and "Lucky Star," Reuters reports.

The "Confessions" tour will continue for two months in North America, then resume on July 30 in Wales for a five-week stadium swing through eight European cities. Shows in Japan are also scheduled for mid-September.

On Sunday, Madonna made her entrance lowered from the ceiling in a giant disco ball. Outfitted in dominatrix-like riding gear, she sang her new song "Future Lovers" accompanied by shirtless male dancers with ball gags in their mouths.

During "Live to Tell," she wore a crown of thorns and hung from a giant mirrored cross as video screens showed scenes of third-world poverty.

Another video montage mixed images of Bush and Tony Blair with footage of Adolf Hitler and Osama bin Laden. Midway through the new song "I Love New York," she cracked a joke about Bush and oral sex.

Last I read they were in the middle of a nasty custody battle... apparently they've reconciled!

DIXIE CHICKS - IN THE LINE OF FIRE

They've taken their hits, and now the Dixie Chicks hit back with what may be the best adult pop CD of the year. Er, will anyone buy it?

Natalie Maines is one of those people born middle finger first. As a high school senior in Lubbock, Texas, she'd skip a class a day in an attempt to prove that because she never got caught and some Mexican students did, the system was racist. After Maines joined the Dixie Chicks, and the Dixie Chicks became the biggest-selling female group in music history—with suspiciously little cash to show for it—she and her bandmates told their record label, Sony, they were declaring themselves free agents. (In the high school that is Nashville, this is way worse than skipping class.) Now that she's truly notorious, having told a London audience in 2003, on the eve of the Iraq war, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas," Maines has one regret: the apology she offered George W. Bush at the onset of her infamy. "I apologized for disrespecting the office of the President," says Maines. "But I don't feel that way anymore. I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever."

A sizable chunk of their once adoring audience feels the same way about the Dixie Chicks. After Maines' pronouncement, which was vigorously seconded by bandmates Martie Maguire and Emily Robison, the group received death threats and was banned by thousands of country radio stations, many of which still have informal bans in place. The Dixie Chicks have mass appeal—you can't sell 10 million copies of two of your three albums without engaging lots of different people—but country radio is an
indispensable part of how they reach people. Programmers say that even now a heartfelt apology could help set things right with listeners, but it's not happening. "If people are going to ask me to apologize based on who I am," says Maines, "I don't know what to do about that. I can't change who I am."

As proof, the first single from the Dixie Chicks' new album, Taking the Long Way (out May 23), is called Not Ready to Make Nice. It is, as one country radio programmer says, "a four-minute f___-you to the format and our listeners. I like the Chicks, and I won't play it." Few other stations are playing Not Ready to Make Nice, and while it has done well on iTunes, it's quite possible that in singing about their anger at people who were already livid with them and were once their target audience, the Chicks have written their own ticket to the pop-culture glue
factory. "I guess if we really cared, we wouldn't have released that single
first," says Maguire. "That was just making people mad. But I don't think it was a mistake."

Whether the Dixie Chicks recover their sales luster or not, the choice of single has turned their album release into a referendum. Taking the Long Way's existence is designed to thumb its nose at country's intolerance for ideological hell raising, and buying it or cursing it reveals something about you and your politics—or at least your ability to put a grudge above your listening pleasure. And however you vote, it's tough to deny that by gambling their careers, three Texas women have the
biggest balls in American music.

Over lunch in decidedly uncountry Santa Monica, Calif., where they have lived part time while recording Long Way, the Dixie Chicks—in fancy jeans, tank tops and designer sunglasses—seem less like provocateurs than busy moms (they have seven kids in all, ages 1 to 5) amped up by a little free time. In conversation they are loud and unembarrassable, celebrating their lack of boundaries in that escalating,
I-can-be-more-blunt-than-you way unique to sisters (which Maguire and Robison are) and women who have shared a tour-bus bathroom. They eagerly discuss the
soullessness of Tom Cruise, the creepiness of Charlie Sheen and the price-fixing practices of hair colorists. But sex is the perennial champ, and they are in a constant state of speculation about which of their kids' nannies is most likely to "get some" on tour this summer. "We're all married," says Maguire, "so it's not like we're going to."

One product of their decade together is that the Chicks are loose with pronouns (they use I and we interchangeably) and agree on almost everything, although the ways they agree can be revealing. When the conversation turns to childhood pets and I mention a beloved one-eyed dog, they all make empathetic faces, but Maguire, 36, gets teary, Robison, 33, laughs at her sister's sensitivity, and Maines, 31, says she would have poked around the empty socket "just to check it out." On Iraq, Maguire begins, "The night we sent missiles over ..." while Maines prefers,
"When we bombed the s___ out of ..."

In the days preceding the March 2003 U.S. invasion, the Dixie Chicks were touring Europe. They don't subscribe to Foreign Affairs, but they are daily newspaper readers who back up their positions with a solid understanding of current events. It struck them as natural that in front of a largely antiwar crowd in London, Maines would preface Travelin' Soldier, an apolitical ballad about a heartsick Vietnam G.I., with a reference to the world outside the theater. As Maines spoke, though, Robison admits, "I got hot from my head to my toes—just kind of this rush of
'Ohhh, s___.' It wasn't that I didn't agree with her 100%; it was just, 'Oh, this is going to stir something up.'"

The celebrity playbook for navigating a scandal is one word long: repent. But apologies are for lapses of character, not revelations of it, and sensing that they were being asked to apologize for their beliefs as much as their timing, the Chicks decided not to back down. "Natalie knows we could have totally convinced her to apologize," says Maguire. "But the fact is, any one of us could have said what she said." Their demure response to the bans and threats—one of which arrived with the date, time and method of Maines' planned assassination—was to appear nude on the cover of Entertainment Weekly with slurs (saddam's angels) scrawled on their naked bodies. That did not placate the offended. More fans and friends were lost. Gradually, though, the need for round-the-clock security faded.

Now when they talk about "the Incident," as they unfailingly call it, the Dixie Chicks try to write it off as an absurdity. Maines has powerful gusts of indignation and real disdain for a few right-wing websites and talk-show hosts, but what seems to linger most is disappointment in her pre-controversy self. "I think I'd gotten too comfortable living my life," she says. "I didn't know people thought about us a certain way—that we were Republican and pro-war."

With George Bush the official pinata of the music industry (see chart, above) the Dixie Chicks' ordeal should have cooled by now. "We struggle with that all the time," says Maguire. "Are we picking the scab of something that's already healed? Because we don't know what people are thinking." Radio programmers make it their business to know. "They're still through the floor," says Dale Carter, program director at kfkf in Kansas City, Mo. "There's a technology called the Dial where listeners react to songs, and every time we test the Dixie Chicks ..." Carter makes a noise like a boulder falling from a high cliff. "It's not the music, because we're playing them the hits they used to love. It's something visceral. I've never seen anything like it."

The unwillingness of audiences to forgive the band is inseparable from politics. Market research indicates the average country listener is white, suburban and leans to the right, and they need not lean too far to file away an insult against a wartime President. Still, as the President's support has eroded and growing numbers of Americans (presumably some country-music fans among them) have come to disapprove of both his performance and the decision to go to war, shouldn't there be a
proportional feeling of forgiveness toward the Dixie Chicks? Country Music Television (CMT) has conducted numerous focus groups on the band. "And they're all a great study in the American psyche," says Brian Philips, the channel's executive vice president. "What comes up over and over again is, 'It would have been one thing if they'd said it on American soil, but it's the fact that they said it in Europe that really sets me off!'" There's an accusation of cowardice in there—although
Maines insists, "I said it there 'cause that's where I was"—but if the way Philips draws out the syllables in Europe is to be believed, there's also a more personal grievance, an uneasy cocktail of resentment and abandonment. As Tim McGraw, one of the few vocal Democrats in country, and the only major artist who would speak on the record about the Dixie Chicks, says, "You've got to remember this is a family skirmish, and it's possible there's more than one thing going on."

Country music has never been particularly classy, which is one of its principal charms. Less charming is its defensiveness about its station. Unlike rock fans, most of whom are attracted to the music's integration of styles, some country fans—particularly those who call up radio stations in a lather—take it upon themselves to patrol a wall of genre purity. Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash got passes because they were sui generis. Not so Buck Owens, who in 1965, after a few experimental
dalliances, took out an advertisement with a career-saving loyalty oath, "Pledge
to Country Music," in the Music City News, promising, "I Shall Sing No Song That Is Not a Country Song." Even now, acts that other listeners reflexively think of as country, from McGraw to Willie Nelson to Shania Twain, are often disparaged for keeping an eye on the Hot 100, playing noncountry songs or showing a little navel. The message from hard-core listeners is, Stay behind the wall.

Early in their careers, the Dixie Chicks did, and they were beloved for it. Maguire and Robison started the group in their teens (Maguire was then at Southern Methodist University; Robison never finished an application to the Air Force Academy) with two singers in their 30s before eventually replacing them in 1995 with Maines, a Berklee College of Music dropout who, at the time, was attending her third college in three
years. After a lot of dues paying, the band took over the country charts. Maines has an immensely powerful voice, but she's also capable of barometric emotional adjustments; she almost never oversings and thus sounds great coming out of stereo speakers. Meanwhile, in a medium that values tradition, Maguire and Robison played the most traditional country instruments, fiddle and banjo, and played them well. It didn't hurt either that all three were lookers.

The Chicks have affection for their early work, and songs like There's Your Trouble and Goodbye Earl will endure, but Maines describes most of it as "amateurish." They didn't write their hits, and the songs they did write were mostly filler. "I never wrote anything from my point of view," Maines says. "Even if it was something that happened to me, I would write it like it was a character and I was telling someone else's story ... That's not very brave."

This is what talented musicians are supposed to do: aspire to get better, braver. But at each step of their evolution, from their feud with Sony (ungrateful!) to the bluegrass album, Home (not country enough!), and then, of course, the Incident, the genre's wrath hovered like a jealous boyfriend. "Their old audience feels a little betrayed, a little left behind maybe," says cmt's Philips. That may explain why, as the Chicks and country began their breakup, country fans ran into the arms of
brilliant redneck instigator Toby Keith, who displayed a doctored photo of Maines and Saddam Hussein at his concerts.

It also explains why the Dixie Chicks have made such a point of saying good riddance. "I'd rather have a smaller following of really cool people who get it," says Maguire, "who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith. We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do." When the group gathered in early 2004 to talk about a new album, none of the three sounded nearly that confident. "You could tell this thing had strengthened them personally but shaken them artistically," says producer Rick Rubin, famous for his work with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beastie Boys and on Johnny Cash's haunting American series. "What turned me on, though, was that even though people were divided over what they said, people cared what they said, and that's a very strong position for an artist to be in. For the first time the girls, these cute little girls, had a platform."

Rubin took on the project with the hope—he's way too Zen to make demands—that for the first time in their careers the Dixie Chicks would write all their songs, by themselves and about themselves. As writers they admit they're prone to laziness, like people at a gym who need a personal trainer to force them to concentrate. Gary Louris of the Jayhawks, blues artist Keb' Mo' and Dan Wilson of Semisonic were brought in to co-write and supply discipline, and the band hunkered down in Los Angeles, where Rubin lives, to begin the long and unglamorous work of crafting
songs.

Most of the material that emerged over nearly two years of writing was about marriage and kids and modern life as the Dixie Chicks and lots of other people live it. Oblique references to the controversy made their way into a few songs, so Wilson suggested they write one that addressed the issue head on. "Natalie said, 'Does that mean we'd have to forgive the people that were so evil to us?' And I said, 'Maybe it does,'" Wilson recalls. "And with a little wave of her hand, she said, 'Nooooope.'
Then the next morning that phrase 'I'm not ready to make nice' appeared."

The song builds to a massive crescendo under lyrics ("It's too late to make it right/ I probably wouldn't if I could/ 'Cause I'm mad as hell/ Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should") that are explicitly clear. Those who loathe the Dixie Chicks will never get to the end, while those who love them will listen once, say Yeah! and probably not need to go back. It works better as a referendum than as a pop song, but as Robison says, "We wrote it for ourselves, for therapy. Whether
or not other people think it was important enough to say, we think it was." Says cmt's Philips: "I hope the audience lets them get this out of their system, because it would be the musical crime of the century if people don't hear this album all the way through."

That's a bit much, but you probably won't hear a better adult pop album this year. Musically, Taking the Long Way is full of swaggering country-tinged rock hooks—like a peak Eagles record, except without the misogyny and drug references and the advice to Take It Easy. Instead the songs aspire to do what the best pop always does, function as a smart expression of its creators' lives while remaining accessible to its listeners'. There are allusions to the recent past—on the jubilant opener The
Long Way Around ("It's been two long years now/ Since the top of the world came crashing down") and the breakup song Everybody Knows ("I swore they'd never see me cry/ You'd never see me cry")—but they're only obvious if you look for them. Bitter End is a sing-along about fair-weather friends (the group fell out with a few lefty rockers who, amazingly, felt cheated of the nation's opprobrium) and even Lullaby is the rare song about kids well crafted enough that the childless could mistake it for a love song. And as things begin to sag a bit in Long Way's final third, the album delivers a knockout, So Hard, the first pop song in memory about infertility (Maguire and Robison conceived by in vitro fertilization) and also the catchiest, most complicated love song on the record.

Will anybody buy it? The Dixie Chicks talk about Long Way as the end of their commercial salad days, but they're shrewd enough to know that only suckers choose between art and commerce. "I'm not ready to fly coach," jokes Maguire, and indeed Taking the Long Way could easily sub as the title for their marketing plan. They'll tour starting in July and flog the record on a few select talk shows. "Natalie's new motto is, 'What Would Bruce Springsteen do?'" says Robison, laughing. "Not that we're of that caliber, but 'Would Bruce Springsteen do The View?'" They're not doing The View.

Maines says she's not looking for more battles, but she won't shy away from any either. "Everything was so nice and fine and happy for us for the longest time," she says of their pre-Incident days. "It was awesome to feel those feelings again that I felt in high school: to be angry, to be sure that you're right and that the things you do matter. You don't realize that you're not feeling those feelings until you do. And then you realize how much more interesting life is."

Can Britney Escape Paparazzi Pummeling?

May 19, 2006 — The world has put Britney Spears' parenting skills under a microscope — and while some say that no person could withstand such relentless scrutiny — there is little doubt it's taking a toll on her career.

On Friday, New York City tabloids again pictured the 21-year-old pop star in an unsettling photo with her 8-month-old son. This time she's nearly dropping the child as she walks from Manhattan's Ritz Carlton Hotel with a glass in one hand and her son in the other.

The papers report that Britney's glass was filled with water, and that she merely stumbled on the hem of her jeans while wearing open-toed shoes. And while the boy wasn't hurt, and the minor near-mishap is something any parent can relate to, the publication of the photos shows that Britney's public pummeling seems to have no end.

"Momentum is not on her side. It's gotten to the point where the Britney Watch is for her badness, not her goodness," says Marshal Cohen, chief analyst at the NPD Group, a media consulting firm.

"The best thing for her to do is disappear for a while, and I mean that in all sincerity, because in the short term, even if she tries to do something good, the perception is that she can't do anything right. She has to leave the celebrity spotlight for a while, concentrate on her career, and re-emerge. Luckily, the public is forgiving."

'Toxic' Levels of Bad Press

The near drop was just the latest in Britney's motherhood woes. Just days earlier, she was pictured driving with Sean Preston strapped the wrong way in his baby seat as she drove through Hollywood in her Mini-Cooper convertible. Child experts say children less than a year old should be seated facing backward, not forward.

The incident might not have made headlines at all, except that Britney had been photographed behind the wheel of a car in February, driving with the infant on her lap — with no car seat at all — prompting a visit to her home by sheriff's deputies at the request of child welfare authorities.

Spears was visited by authorities again in April, after the baby reportedly fell from his highchair.

Spears has not been charged with any wrongdoing in these incidents. And a spokesman came to her defense earlier this week to say that California law, unlike in many other states, does not bar parents from seating their child facing forward.

Still, Spears' parenting skills have become something of a national issue, and one California newspaper hopes to use the car seat incident to change the state's law.

"We dislike politicians parenting parents. But sometimes the state needs to serve as a surrogate when mommy and daddy make uninformed decisions. Ensuring children are safe while riding in cars — think Britney Spears with her baby on her lap — is one of those times when the state has to intrude," writes the Long Beach Press Telegram in an editorial headlined "Take a Backseat."

"This is why we hope legislators approve Assembly Bill 2108, which would require children under the age of 13 to ride in the rear seats and extend booster-seat requirements, which currently end at age 6, to age 8, or when a child reaches 4 feet 9 inches tall. This proposal makes it easy for hurried parents to remember the safest way to transport children: teens to the front, preteens to the rear," the editorial says.

For Britney, the news comes just 10 days after she confirmed on David Letterman's talk show that she was pregnant with her second child. With her travails with husband Kevin Federline making news almost daily, it's almost hard to remember that the singer has sold more than 60 million albums and has been a major force on pop charts since she burst on the scene as a 15-year-old with " … Baby One More Time."

With the subsequent release of "Oops! … I Did It Again," Spears became the first female performer in the history of Billboard magazine to have her first three albums open at No. 1 on the U.S. pop charts. While she's been less successful in movies, her more recent hits, like "Toxic," confirm that she can't be sloughed off as a has-been.

Spears was once considered wholesome enough to be featured in national "Milk Mustache" ads, and did a major TV ad campaign for Pepsi. Don't expect to see major advertisers flocking to her as a pitchwoman in the near future, but she shouldn't be written off either.

"The American public is very forgiving," Cohen says. "If she disappears and concentrates on what she does best, this cloud over her head will disappear."

Spears might turn to Kobe Bryant for inspiration, Cohen says. The basketball star's squeaky-clean reputation was forever altered after he faced sexual assault charges. Even after he publicly apologized to his wife for his infidelity, and reached an out-of-court settlement with his accuser, it was unclear if the public would forgive him.

"Kobe was able to rescue his image. He's even doing product endorsements again," Cohen says. "If he can turn it around, so can Britney."

Bush Gets No Respect From Chicks' Maines

The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines apologized for disrespecting President Bush during a London concert in 2003. But now, she's taking it back. "I don't feel that way anymore," she told Time magazine for its issue hitting newsstands Monday. "I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever."

As war in Iraq loomed, Maines told the London audience: "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."

The remarks led to death threats and a backlash from other country stars, including a high-profile spat with Toby Keith. It also stalled what until then had been the group's smashingly successful career.

Bandmate Emily Robinson said she knew right away the remark wouldn't be taken lightly and got "hot from my head to my toes."

"It wasn't that I didn't agree with her 100 percent; it was just, 'Oh, this is going to stir something up,'" she told Time.

For band member Martie Maguire, the controversy was a blessing in disguise.

"I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith," Maguire said. "We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do."

The Chicks' hits include "Landslide," "Goodbye Earl" and "Wide Open Spaces." Their new album, "Taking the Long Way," is due out May 23. The first single is "Not Ready to Make Nice."

TV Bounty Hunter Duane 'Dog' Chapman Weds

Duane "Dog" Chapman, star of A&E's reality show "Dog the Bounty Hunter," has married his longtime sidekick, Beth Smith.

The sunset ceremony on the Big Island took place Saturday, a day after the death of Chapman's daughter. Barbara Katy Chapman, 23, was killed in a car accident near her home of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Chapman gathered with his 10 surviving children — two of whom he had with Smith — and discussed whether to proceed with the wedding.

"They all decided unanimously they should celebrate the wedding and her life," said Michael Feeney, senior vice president of A&E television network.

The wedding will be featured in an Aug. 8 episode of the show, about Chapman and his tattooed crew of fugitive finders, which is now in its third season.

The self-proclaimed world's best bounty hunter and Smith have been together for 16 years.

"I've already been cuffed and shackled by Beth anyway," Chapman, 53, said before the ceremony. "She's Italian and tough."

Besides his trademark mullet, Chapman wore white jeans to match his white leather vest, boots and American Indian jewelry, representing his heritage. Boris Krutonog, the show's co-executive producer, was his best man.

Smith wore an off-white lace gown with nude backing designed by Eduardo Lucero.

Favors include dog tags with the inscription: "Dog & Beth. Captured. May 20, 2006."

The wedding and reception were held at the sprawling Hilton Waikoloa Village. The couple had planned to honeymoon in Fiji, but may postpone their plans because of the death of Chapman's daughter, Feeney said.

Britney Spears Thwarts K-Fed's Attempt to Sell Pregnancy Scoop

Many fans and pundits were certain that Britney Spears was pregnant long before she went on David Letterman and announced it to the world. But she wasn't even scheduled for a spot with Dave that night. So - the curious wanted to know - why then and why with such short notice?

Jefferson Reid points out Us Weekly's cover story that says K-Fed was trying to sell the scoop of Brit's pregnancy for cash.

Brit reportedly thwarted that effort with her appearance.

He details that as part of the mag's blowout story about the former pop star laying down the law to her would-be rapper hubby, they spill why Britney dropped the baby bomb on Letterman.

It seems K-Fed was in the midst of trying to "broker a lucrative deal to leak information to a news outlet about the pregnancy" until Britney scooped him on Dave.

She reportedly did so to show Kevin who's boss and to tighten the purse strings. The mag's source says Spears "is happy she just came out about the baby. Kevin didn't make any money on it, and I'm sure he is pissed."

The inevitable snarky comment - sounds like Brit could be singing a new tune: "Not a Divorcée, Not Yet Legally Separated."

She may not perform anymore - but it appears there is never a dull moment in the life of Britney.

Felicity Huffman's Oscar Nerves

Star FELICITY HUFFMAN was so anxious about attending the Academy Awards, she brought along a flask of vodka to calm her nerves. The star was nominated in the Best Actress category for her performance in the movie TRANSAMERICA. Huffman and husband WILLIAM H MACY brought along flasks to the Oscar ceremony and even shared their beverages with fellow stars. She recalls, "During a break Bill and I went out to use the restroom or something and we bring flasks to all the award shows - I have vodka and he has scotch. "So we have our little flasks - you just need a little help (with nerves)...and we're alcoholics, but anyway... "So we're in the waiting room and we were there with STEVE MACPHERSON, his wife JENNIFER, MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL and PETER SARSGAARD and we were all waiting, passing the flask back and forth and getting more drunk as the awards went on."
