Pregnant teenage star, Keisha Castle-Hughes, has caused a controversy at the Vatican over the premiere of her film, "The Nativity Story". The ruckus started on Friday when Pope Benedict XVI refused an invitation to attend the screening becasue the 16-year-old actress is expecting a child out of wedlock. In response, the star who plays Mary in the film skipped the premiere that went on as schedules in the Vatican's Pope Paul VI Hall.
Castle-Hughes received an Oscar nomination for her role in 2002 film Whale Rider.
I read somewhere that it is okay in Australia to be this young & pregnant. It still kind of creeps me out.
ReplyDeleteThe Vatican says the Pope is resting ahead for his trip to Turkey. Why did she not go??
ReplyDeleteShe opted to pull out and hasn't released a statement. Most likely she wanted to remove herself from the media story and re-focus attention on the film.
ReplyDeleteIt's New Zealand where it's perfectly acceptable to have kids this young - within the Maori culture.
ReplyDeleteIt still doesnt make a big difference to me if she's 16 and pregnant. As long as she can take care of the child.
ReplyDeleteAs for her boyfriend being 19, THAT creeps me out.
