Carnie Wilson on Motherhood and Weight Loss

One of my favorite baby related websites, The Daily Stroll, has just posted the first in a series of celebrity mom interviews. Fist up is an interview with Carnie Wilson who is currently featured on the new season of "Celebrity Fit Club" on VH1. Carnie talks candidly about motherhood, losing the post baby weight, and starting a healthier lifestyle.

Here are some of highlights from their interview:

DS: Lola Sofia just turned one right? Tell me straight up how the first year of motherhood has been?
CW: It has been so life changing and it just changed me and my husband and my out look on life in so many ways. Best way to describe it is that it is has opened up my heart and soul- one big huge open wound, I am really sensitive to her needs, my life is now her life. It has been challenging, scary, tiring, I am in awe of her development. And her personality! She is stubborn, knows what she wants- best thing about her is that she loves people!

DS: How do you balance work and motherhood? Do you and your husband use a nanny? Family help?
CW: All of the above. We both work part time, love work, hate working when I have a baby, my goal is to not work, but I feel like there is so much to do. We do have a nanny, she is wonderful, everything we could ever want. She is kind, gentle, her name is Tish, she is great with Lola, and Rob and I are very into keeping Lola excited, learning all of the time. Rob has an album coming out (Skies of America) and is going on tour for a month and he will be away which will be hard. We are both working parents, so we juggle between grandma and our nanny. Lola is very loved and well cared for. I am very adamant about me being with her every morning and night and would miss her too much if I were away and I really just want to be with her.

DS: Do you feel pressured by women like Heidi Klum who strut the runway what seems like minutes after they got off of the delivery table? I tell you, I feel pressured and I am not a Hollywood mom!CW: I don’t feel pressured, those people are from another planet! They never had a weight prob to begin with, my fat cells have a large memory and my body likes to be fat. It’s a battle, a constant battle, you have to know your body and it changes, and learn that it is changing and readjust your lifestyle and commit. If I concentrate on what everyone else looks like I will be let down, there is no reason to feel like this. Baby weight I could never lose. I needed to get real, I was snacking, I wasn’t working out enough, I wasn’t watching carbs. If you journal food, add up calories, calories in vs. calories burned, so you will be able to identify behavior and keep track judging by the intake and output. Exercising 4-6 times a week, drinking 64oz of water a day, 1 carb per day and and watching those hidden calories is the only way to change your body. Alcohol (although I don't drink) is a big hidden calorie too, beer, wine, all of it. Turns right to sugar and sugar to fat.

DS: What do you have on deck as far as work? Are you planning to record some more music? Acting? Having more babies? CW: Recently I recorded "A Mother's Gift" Lullabies from the heart. I want to have another baby. What ever is meant to be, God willing I would be able to get pregnant easily again. I would love to have them 2-3 yrs apart. My sister and I are 18 months apart and I want a sibling for Lola. I think we are going to do a Wilson/Phillips Christmas album for next year, tv show hosting is on the burner, always doing lectures for morbidly obese people and I am devoted to speaking on and spreading awareness about the #1 killer and pandemic. I am always going to be dedicated to morbidly obese people.
