Actor Jack Black and his wife Tanya Haden welcomed their first child last week. The baby boy was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
“It feels good,” says Black. “I’m going to be the best daddy on the planet and I’m going to enter the best daddy competition. And I’m going to win it.
“I’m already having headaches and am going, ‘Where is he going to pre-school? Am I going to put cameras in every room of my house to spy on babysitters to make sure they don’t shake the baby?’ ” He joked, “I love videogames but the other day I was reading about how they can be addictive. And I’m thinking, ‘Am I going to be the parent who tells them no videogames?’ ”
“He had a boy,” confirms Ana de la Reguera, who costars with Black in his new film Nacho Libre. “I think he’ll be a great father. He has a great chemistry with kids — they love him. All the kids we worked with, they adored him.”
“It’s so exciting for him,” Nacho Libre director Jared Hess told Us at the film’s premiere. “He’s worried about being a dad as far as the discipline aspect, but he’ll definitely be the funnest dad on the planet. He’s one of a kind. He has a very big heart — besides being as talented as he is — and cares about everyone.”
Adds fellow costar Peter Stormare: “He’s a very generous guy and I love him a lot. As a father he’ll be so great. I’ll be getting him a wresting figure for the little one!”
Black, 36, made his mark acting in such films as School of Rock and King Kong. He also has a band called Tenacious D. ( “I’m not going to let my kid hear any Tenacious D,” Black recently joked.) Haden, 35, is a cellist and the daughter of jazz great Charlie Haden. The couple have known each other since high school. They eloped on March 14, 2006 after dating less than a year.
