IT'S hard to believe looking at her now, but former Playmate and comic Jenny McCarthy gained 80 pounds during her pregnancy. "I couldn't stop eating," McCarthy tells Page Six and "The Insider." "I would have, like, a slab of ribs and my stomach would still be grumbling, so I'd have some more. Then I gave birth and couldn't get the weight off. I tried anorexia, and it lasted for two hours. I got this big celebrity trainer and - nothing. Finally my mother came over and she lost 40 pounds on Weight Watchers, so I did it, and got rid of 9 pounds the first month." A now slender McCarthy, in town to promote her latest book, "Life Laughs," said, "My book is about marriage, motherhood and life. When I first started writing, I was married [to actor John Asher]. And midway through, I [filed for divorce]. I realized by writing the book my marriage was a mess."

Mission Impossible Faux Pas
A newspaper promotion for Tom Cruise's upcoming "Mission: Impossible III" got off to an explosive start when a county arson squad blew up a news rack, thinking it contained a bomb.
The confusion: the Los Angeles Times rack was fitted with a digital musical device designed to play the "Mission: Impossible" theme song when the door was opened. But in some cases, the red plastic boxes with protruding wires were jarred loose and dropped onto the stack of newspapers inside, alarming customers.
Sheriff's officials said they rendered the news rack in this suburb 35 miles north of downtown Los Angeles "safe" after being called to the scene Friday by a concerned individual who thought he'd seen a bomb.
Times officials said the devices were placed in 4,500 randomly selected news boxes in Los Angeles and Ventura counties in a venture with Paramount Pictures designed to turn the "everyday news rack experience" into an "extraordinary mission."
It was just that, at least for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arson squad, which destroyed the box.
"This was the least intended outcome. We weren't expecting anything like this," said John O'Loughlin, the Times' senior vice president for planning.
The devices are to remain in the boxes until May 7, two days after the film is scheduled to open.

Margolis to Pose for Playboy -- at 40
Cindy Margolis, known as the "Most Downloaded Woman" on the Internet, is following up her win on "Celebrity Cooking Showdown" with a career first -- posing nude for Playboy.
The mother of three told The Associated Press that she finally agreed to pose for the magazine when they called on her 40th birthday.
"Thank goodness for 'Desperate Housewives.' You're not dead just because you are married and have children," the actress and model said Monday, on the phone from her Los Angeles home.
After turning down offers to pose for the magazine in the past, Margolis said she accepted this time because she felt posing nude at the age of 40 is empowering.
"In the past it would have been for gratuitous reasons," she said.
Now, Margolis said, she is enjoying being the ultimate desperate housewife.
"It will be fun to go up against the 20-year-olds and show them that they don't have anything on me," she said.
Margolis has appeared in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" and the annual "Lingerie Bowl."
She has made headlines in recent years for her struggles with infertility. She is the national spokeswoman for Resolve: The National Infertility Association and is also writing a book about the subject.
"I just want to make it more mainstream for people to understand infertility, to understand surrogacy and adoption," she said.
Margolis, a former "Price is Right" model, gave birth to son Nicholas in 2002 after a high-risk pregnancy. The child was her first with husband, Guy Starkman. In 2005 Margolis and Starkman welcomed twins Sabrina and Sierra into the family. The twins were carried by a surrogate mother, and are biologically the couple's by in-vitro fertilization.
"It doesn't matter how you get your baby, even if it's via FedEx as long as you get to hold your precious baby in your arms. You can have your miracle child," Margolis said.

Angelina Jolie -- Fame With A Purpose

Captivating. That's the word that best describes Angelina Jolie, or Angie as she is called by those who know her. Up close she is even more beautiful, but not just because of the lines of her face.
Looking at her, my thoughts turned to what she was when I first met her... sad and dark, wanting to laugh more. People ridiculed her, gossiping about Billy Bob, her tatoos and a kiss she gave her brother. People would ask me how I could interview such a woman.
Feeling that sting, it would have been so easy for her to exploit her humanitarian work early. But when I asked to follow her on her missions, she told me she wasn't ready, she didn't know enough. She knows enough now. And still, she has not confessed to all the good works she has done.
How common is it to find someone who embraces the idea that any true gift is given anonymously? Angie's like that, not wanting to publicize her efforts, unless some greater good might come of it.
Now people stop me to say how much they admire her, how she inspires them.
I have concluded that Angie represents the transformation that is possible in all of us, when we step outside our own suffering, and open ourselves to the suffering of others.
Look at how useful she has made made her life, focusing on helping the must vulnerable among us. That, I think, is the most beautiful thing about her.

Ellen DeGeneres Tops Daytime Emmys / Rosie O'Donnell Officially Joins The View
Ellen DeGeneres proved the darling of Friday night's 33rd annual Daytime Emmy ceremony, taking home the award for best talk-show host for the second time and the top prize for best talk show for the third year running.
"This means a lot of me," DeGeneres said on the stage of Hollywood's Kodak Theater (this year's three-hour show marked the first time ever the event was held out West). She also addressed her partner, actress Portia de Rossi, sitting in the audience and said, "I love you."
Backstage, DeGeneres said, "I feel lucky. I found something that I feel comfortable doing and people seem to like what I do," the Associated Press reports.
Also lucky: Rosie O'Donnell, who, as expected, was named to the enviable job as Meredith Vieira's replacement on The View when Vieira becomes Today co-host in September (while Katie Couric moves to the CBS Evening News). The View's co-creator and star Barbara Walters made the announcement with Rosie standing beside her.
"Well, thank God," cracked O'Donnell, "because it was either that or Celebrity Fit Club." Added Walters, "We're so lucky to have her."
Former '80s teen idol Rick Springfield, who recently returned to General Hospital after 23 years, opened the show in an outdoor fan zone singing a medley of his hits before moving inside and concluded with "Jessie's Girl."
Other winners included Jeopardy!'s Alex Trebek, who beat Who Wants to Be a Millionaire's Vieira for the Emmy as best game-show host, and Caroll Spinney (a.k.a. Big Bird), who won a lifetime achievement award for his work on Sesame Street – which was also named best pre-school children's series.
In terms of the awards for soap operas, Guiding Light won four Daytime Emmys, including actress Kim Zimmer as lead actress (her fourth career trophy). The show also had three first-time winners: Gina Tognoni (supporting actress), Tom Pelphrey (younger actor) and Jordan Clarke (supporting actor).
General Hospital was named best drama and directing, bringing the ABC soap a record nine trophies in the drama category. The show's Tony Geary (who plays Luke Spencer) won his fifth Daytime Emmy as lead actor. His first was in 1982.

Bradd Pitt and Adam Sandler Slam Vanity Fair Piece

Actors BRAD PITT and ADAM SANDLER are slamming VANITY FAIR magazine's expose on Hollywood detective ANTHONY PELLICANO, insisting allegations of their involvement in the scandal are untrue. The actors, along with Paramount studio head BRAD GREY and a representative for the late actor CHRIS FARLEY, deny they ever hired the private investigator, as the story alleges. CINDY GUAGENTI, who represents both Pitt and Sandler said in a statement, "Brad Pitt, Adam Sandler and the late Chris Farley have never once engaged in the services of Anthony Pellicano, either directly or through a representative." Guagenti added that the actors were not contacted by the magazine before the story was published. Pellicano is currently awaiting trial on charges he illegally wiretapped the phones of a number of stars including SYLVESTER STALLONE, GARRY SHANDLING and KEITH CARRADINE. CHRIS ROCK has already been revealed as one alleged client of Pellicano's. The magazine also claims MICHAEL JACKSON, STEVE BING, STEVIE WONDER, JAMES WOODS and KEVIN COSTNER used Pellicano's services.

Reese Witherspoon Named Hippest Mom

Beautiful, successful -- and now Oscar- winner Reese Witherspoon can add "Hippest Mom" to her resume! To celebrate Mother's Day, the "Lifetime Women's Pulse Poll*" surveyed nearly 1,000 Lifetime viewers nationwide, who found Reese Witherspoon the hippest mother, ahead of Kelly Ripa, Kate Hudson and Jennifer Garner, while saying Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston (Marc and Vince, are you listening?) are the celebrities most likely to become pregnant this year.
As she will throughout May, singer Martina McBride will serve as on-air host during the Sunday, May 14 Mother's Day movie festival, which runs from 11AM-11PM (ET/PT), highlighted by the 5PM (ET/PT) U.S. Television Premiere of "Honeymoon with Mom," starring Shelley Long, Jack Scalia and Virginia Williams.
During "The Mother of All Months," Martina will share results from the latest poll, answer viewer questions, share her experiences as a mom and talk about her latest projects. "I had fun learning the results from Lifetime's poll and hearing all about how other moms feel. In my music, you can hear how much being a mother has impacted by life. I love to share experiences with other moms and hosting this movie marathon was so much fun!" says McBride. She made sure to fit this into her busy schedule that includes performing to sold-out audiences on her Timeless tour and taking care of her three young girls.
The "Lifetime Women's Pulse Poll" also found that women looking for a "Mr. Mom" to clean their house and take care of the kids selected Tim McGraw, beating out "Dr. McDreamy" (Patrick Dempsey from "Grey's Anatomy"). But when the vacuuming's done and they're looking for someone to tuck them in at night, Matthew Fox ("Lost") and Ricardo Antonio Chavira ("Desperate Housewives") were the chocolate on the pillow, edging out Usher and Simon Cowell of "American Idol."
How good were their own mothers at giving advice? More than 30 percent said parenting tips were the best advice they ever received, but nearly as many (28.4%) said their mother was "horrible at giving advice" - such as the mere 2.3% who said their Mom offered pearls of wisdom about sex.
No matter whether their mother was right about raising children or Tim McGraw cleaned the oven, an overwhelming number (76.6%) believed motherhood is harder than when they were young girls.

Charlie Sheen's Friends Comment on Denise Richards Actions

CHARLIE Sheen is being a gentleman by refusing to discuss his ugly divorce from Denise Richards - but it isn't stopping his friends from talking.
His manager, Mark Burg, is particularly angry about Richards' claims that Sheen likes gay porno and gambling and makes death threats. He told Page Six, "All of this is nothing more than child-custody issues.
"This all started because Charlie wanted 50-50 custody . . . When Denise said no. Charlie said, 'Then let a judge decide.' The next day, she comes out with a bunch of bull[bleep] claims.
"Did he gamble on sports? Big deal. Every guy I know does. Show me a guy who hasn't seen porn on the Internet. Does that mean he's not a good father? No. This guy lives for his kids. And she drummed all this up so he can't see his kids. It is the single worst behavior of a parent I have ever seen."
As for Richards' friendly relationship with the paparazzi and her sympathetic portrayal in the tabloids, Burg adds, "There are groups like Alcoholics Anonymous. Denise needs to go to National Enquirer Anonymous. This shouldn't be fought in the press.
"Is Charlie upset? Yes. Did he threaten to kill her? No. Would he kill her? No way. When someone tells her something she doesn't want to hear, they're out the door."
Others who have disagreed with Richards have been dropped from her inner circle. Two weeks ago, she fired her divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser - who likes to keep her cases out of the press - in favor of Neil Hersch.
Richards also dropped her longtime public-relations gurus at PMK-HBH this week because, as a source delicately put it, PMK-HBH had "different strategies in mind" than she did.
Meanwhile, sources say Richards told Sheen that she and Richie Sambora have been seeing each other romantically since early November - not March, as Richards has told others. Sambora's soon to be ex, Heather Locklear - Richards' former best friend - is said to be "utterly devastated."
David Spade, who has been seeing Locklear recently, told Us Weekly reporter Matthew Cole Weiss at Republic restaurant in L.A. the other night, "All I know is [Heather] is home nursing her knife wounds in the back tonight."
Spade's view is echoed by many. Locklear and Richards had many of the same friends in the Westlake area. "No one is talking to Denise right now," a source said. "They are all just appalled."

Halle Berry: 'I Will Definitely Adopt'
Add another Hollywood beauty to the new mom club – or, at least, the group of wannabe moms: Halle Berry.
"I will adopt if it doesn't happen for me naturally," the Monster's Ball Oscar winner, 39, tells TV's Extra. "I will definitely adopt. And I probably will adopt even if it does happen naturally."
Since November, when they met shooting a Versace ad in Los Angeles, Berry's boyfriend has been 30-year-old Gabriel Aubry, a 6'2" blond Canadian model. Says Nadia Canova, whose Montreal-based Montage Models Inc. discovered Aubry, then a cook, in 1997 at a Quebec ski resort: "He's a very quiet person, with good values."
As a friend of his told PEOPLE in February about Berry and Aubry: "They are so smitten." Yet when asked about the romance by PEOPLE, Berry playfully zipped her lips. But Aubry is clear about his feelings, says his dad: "He told me he was in love."
Berry, who next month is reprising her role as Storm in the new movie X-Men: The Last Stand, has been married and divorced twice, to baseball player David Justice (the two were wed from 1992-97) and to actor Eric Benet (2001-05).
