Finding a balance between msic and motherhood seems to be an easy transition for Gwen Stefani. She seems to juggle a new album, her two fashion lines, and a growing infant without missing a step.
She arrived in Toronto earlier this week to promote her second solo album, The Sweet Escape, that hits stores on Tuesday and spent a few moments talking with Jam Music.
"It just makes it more fun with him around," Stefani says.
"The transition of having the baby was, like, flawless. Like, no transition. He was there and then it was just natural. He cries and talks. He's got two little teeth. I think he definitely knows that I'm someone special and that I feed him. I'm the milk cow."
She says that if there was a choice between Kingston and working, the decision would be easy.
"If they said, 'You have to do your job, and your baby needs to stay home with your mom,' or 'You don't get to take him,' then I would be like, 'Well, forget it then, I'm quitting,'" Stefani said. "But because I get to bring him with me everywhere and do both, I'm doing it."
Kingston even got put to work on mom's album. You can hear him crying on the song Yummy.
Gwen admits that she didn't enjoy the first few months of pregnancy. (She found out she was expecting while in rehearsals for her first solo tour.) She admits to crying while trying to squeeze into stage outfits before each show.
"You feel really gross when you first get pregnant," Stefani said. "Like a PMS feeling, like how you feel gross, cranky and physically bloated -- times a million. I remember thinking, 'Am I really going to go on tour now? This is crazy.' Like, 19 shows turned in 42 shows. 'Well,' I thought, 'I'm superwoman. I can just do it.'"
From all accounts, it certainly does look like Gwen can do just about anything she sets her mind to.
